Coming to America: Pokémon edition Nintendo DS

The limited edition Nintendo DS featuring Pokémon characters will be making a stateside release. The black DS was exclusive to Japan for a while, but will “soon” be headed to your local retail establishment. Well, so claims an employee from GameStop.
The DS, which will cost $129, comes with a bunch of Pokémon stuff, including a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DVD and a carrying case.
My only question is: who still plays the game? Children, or people who grew up with the first Pokémon series 10 years ago (like me)? Obviously plenty of people are (just chose a random NPD sales chart and you’ll see one of the games there), I just was curious as to the demographics.

My 6 yr old son and all his friends in NC.
- Mostly into the BeanieBaby-sized stuffed animals.
- Has been begging for a DS. This would be perfect :)
My 21 yr old step-son and all his friends in NYC.
- Mostly into the GameBoy games.
My 16 yr old nephew just gave most of his collection to my youngest.
- Mostly into the Trading Cards.
The Pokemon franchise is still going strong. Has a section at Walmart/Target as big as Ben10, Bakugan, Batman, and others.

My 10-year-old!
Somehow the Pokemon franchise has been self-perpetuating.
A new generation of kids are exposed to:
a new TV series (Pokemon Diamond and Pearl), new toys, and new fast food tie-ins (a couple weeks ago Burger King was Pokemon cards with its kids’ meals).
Nintendo itself has 4 or 5 Pokemon DS games in its current catalog …
