The team does have interest in having him retire as a player because it does reflect in the hall of fame as well as merchandising and some other stuff that I was reading about earlier. Look at people like Jerry Rice. He left the 49ers for Oakland, did a few years there, went to Seattle, retired and did a 1 day contract with San Fran so he could retire a 49er.
