iPhone 3G unlocked? [UPDATED]

I’m getting the dirt on this right now but it seems that Pat Phelan of MaxRoam just unlocked his iPhone 3G and will be giving away the app shortly.
UPDATE - False alarm. It wasn’t a software unlock, it’s the old physical SIM card unlock.
