A guild in Final Fantasy XI spent 18 hours trying to kill a boss; the boss is still alive! The guild, Beyond the Limitation, did all the legwork, all the preparation in order to kill the boss Pandemonium Warden, considered the toughest boss in the game. Eighteen hours later, the guild gave up and cried just a little bit.
Why, exactly, did the guild give up?
People were passing out and getting physically ill. We decided to end it before we risked turning into a horrible new story about how video games ruin people’s lives…. None of us doubt that Pandemonium Warden can be killed. We just call into question exactly what the development team thinks is reasonable from human beings
I guarantee that if I were a member of that guild, that would have been the last time I logged on. Eighteen hours to kill a boss, and still no dice?
Games are supposed to be fun, right?

Square is legendary for near impossible boss fights. The final battles in Final Fantasy X can take a solid 3 hours. But this? This is just ridiculous.
This reminds me of the “Weapons” in Final Fantasy VII. Remember them. You couldn’t fight them until the game was over and they were added for “extra” content. I got through three of them (which was damn near impossible at 2-3 hours of fight each) and never did beat the Red Weapon. I can’t remember its name. It was in the desert and you fought it by approaching its tail … I fought that thing for over 3 hours straight and it just wouldn’t die.
More than likely there is some trick to beating him, I doubt you are just supposed to hack away at it for over 18 hours, it took a while before people found some of the weakspots and tricks that could be used against the former “impossible” boss, Absolute Virtue.
bunch of nerds…seriously.
I got some nice ad placement in Google Reader for this post:

No, players used terrain exploits to take down AV and SE has patched the game to prevent them from being used again. It has not been beaten using what SE would call “legitimate tactics”.
That was a while ago, and I wasn’t talking about trapping it in the terrain by a glitch.
Sif give up after 18 hours. I play over 18 hours a day (not including boss kills). You people are mentally challenged.
