foxL

Billed as being “audiophile-grade,” the soundmatters foxL is a portable speaker system designed for travelers (and other folks on-the-go) with a discerning ear. As you can see, it’s small enough to fit inside the palm of your hand, which is usually the best method of determining whether or not a speaker is worth your money.

Soudmatters chalks foxL’s performance up to two linear magnetic drive twoofers. Reminds me of blast processing, or whatever Sega was hawking back in the day.

If it means anything, the dud from AV Guide.com says it sounds “insanely great.” Not too much wiggle room there, as “insanely great” can really only mean one thing. All of that being said, the foxL will only set you back $199 when it comes out on September 1, though the Bluetooth-equipped one is $50 more.

  • The state of high fidelity has fallen to new lows. The thing is, it has been so long since most people have heard anything that actually sounds good there is no refenece to compare with. If the same thing happened with automobiles we’d all think the Smart car was brilliant.

  • .I work for soundmatters and totally agree with Chuck that the reference for sound quality these days is looooow… but any audiophile will probably agree that y these testimonials on the foxL are based on a very high standard of reference… “Anyone interested in quality of sound, must have this little wonder” – Gayle Sanders, co-founder Martin-Logan (www.martinlogan.com), “remarkably full-range performance and musical for the size” – Michael Kelly, Pres. Aerial Acoustics (www.aerialacoustics.com), ” sound than anything this small should produce” – John Hunter, Pres. Sumiko (www.sumikoaudio.com)

  • Almost forgot this comment: “…creating the illusion of deeper bass than is actually present.” Yeah, thats what I want from my Audiophile exeperience – The illusion that it sounds good.
