Not even instant replay could help this team
As if baseball isn’t slow enough already, it now looks like the MLB will allow the use of instant replay to help make on-the-field calls. Don’t tell the purists.
The deal, which is all but done but not *quite* finished, is such that instant replay will start being used before the end of the month. Use of instant replay will be limited to boundary calls—foul or fair ball, home run or hit-the-wall, that kind of thing.
MLB says it doesn’t need the players’ association permission to implement instant replays.
If you want to laugh, I suggest you watch shows like Around the Horn and Baseball Tonight, as those aforementioned purists have a nervous breakdown live on TV. Sports talk radio should also be worth a listen.

ooh I can’t wait for some purist freaking out. The fact of the matter is that TV and technology has effects on everything, down to America’s most traditional sport. Now instead of listening with friends around a radio, we have HDTV and multiple camera angles so fans don’t miss a play (not to mention you can rewind most TV programs while you are watching them). Its understandable that umps miss a call, and on this particular form of instant replay, I can’t imagine too much complaining….unless instant replay assumes more forms in the future. If viewers can see with their own TVs better than the umps, I can see why instant replay needs to be given a shot. (On that note, I have recently become a rep for Sharp TV, the official HDTV of MLB, so if you really want the best baseball screen, check it out at http://sharp.smnr.us)
