A lawsuit has been filed against Apple over the company’s “defective” iPhone 3G. The plaintiff, from Birmingham, Alabama, argues that the iPhone 3G is a piece of junk, with shoddy data transfer performance, lots of dropped called, an inconsistent 3G connection, and so on. (The case doesn’t mention hardware problems, like the easily breakable body.) Anyone who uses Twitter, you poor thing, will have noticed all the “the 3G connection sucks” tweets flying across the service.

Apple is supposed to fix many of these problems with an upcoming firmware update.

Or is it a faulty chip that’s to blame?

The plaintiff is seeking class-action status for the lawsuit.

Wouldn’t it have been prudent to wait for Apple’s fix before filing this lawsuit?

  • It seems the “2fix” as you put it has made things worse, have you not updated your phone to the new 2.0.2 firmware? Its rubbish! i have had to turn 3G off totally just to make it work! I hope this case goes all the way and forces a world wide recall of this mistake of a phone. Good luck i say!

  • How pitifull. I guess it was just a matter of time. Go buy another phone and get over it. If you have enough time to file a lawsuit, then you have enough time to find a phone that’s up to your standards.

  • Bravo! The iPhone is the biggest piece of junk I have ever experienced. I purchased the phone two weeks ago and promptly took it back after a week and a half. I had initially “upgraded” to the 3G, because of the supposed faster speeds and GPS. The phone simply DOESNT do what Apple and At&t claim that it does. If my phone for example was in 3G mode I couldn’t find a tower to save my life. I would routinely have something like one bar in the status area when 3G was one. Then, magically if the phone was on Edge service only I’d have all my bars and could actually make a call. The battery lasts approx, 7mins and it has more glitches then my original. When I took the phone back to the At&t store they had the nerve to charge me a ten percent restocking fee. If I sold a product that didn’t do anything I claimed it does, wouldn’t I be accountable? Steve Jobs has less credibility then Ron Popeil. I’m so disappointed in Apple and their partnership with At&t. I’ve been a loyal Apple user since 1997. What have you become Steve Jobs? You’re a bigger douche the Gates now. Mt Windows powered Treo actually worked!
