still confused. how can you make calls and send texts if you aren’t connected via either cell or wifi? that sounds like some magical service! i want one.

Hey Marc-

When I’m connected over UMA I can make calls and send texts even when I don’t have a wireless connection. When I was on the flight the UMA connection was spotty and I was in the midst of sending and receiving texts on the plane with friends when the connection dropped for an extended period of time. Hope that clears things up.

Thanks for the great write up. But I’m a bit confused about the UMA/SMS situation.

As I understand it, UMA is a fancy term for T-Mobile customers to use their wifi-enabled cell phones in places that have a wireless access point.

So when you say…”I just wasn’t able to send and receive SMS/MMS when UMA wasn’t active.”

What do you mean by UMA not being active? Can you usually send and receive SMSs when it is not active?
