Grand Theft Auto IV comes out for the PC this fall, but Rockstar’s in Leipzig showing it off at the Games Convention. It’s the same game you’ve already played to death, but running at a much higher resolution. Like, 2560×1600. Gaming in 1080p on a plasma isn’t so impressive when you’re a PC gamer. (But I’m not so it doesn’t bother me.)

Other than an overall higher resolution, the game benefits from higher-res textures, better streaming, longer draw distances, and better anti-aliasing. The multiplayer game also has some improvements, like a higher player number limit.

If you’re ever played the PS2 GTA games on the PC, then you know just how big an improvement the PC version is over the console one. It’s enough to make you want to play through again.

  • It’s game like this and Crysis and hopefully the new Red Faction that are finally starting to widen the gap between console games and PC games again. I have always been a fan of the keyboard and mouse (blame Quake) but over and above that, PC users have always had the room to move and grow with games (which like Crysis a console could never handle). Sure, the price difference is WAY off, but I can buy new hardware every year or two and have an up to date system and not a 5 year old console. Plus, I am never at risk to the “console flop” syndrome that console users have to deal with if developers decide to say “F*** developing for that, it’s toooo hard.”

  • I thought devs were shying away from PC gaming claiming piracy is making it unprofitable? Everything I’ve been reading is saying consoles are the future.

  • If you look in the right places, piracy is rampant for consoles as well.

  • I’m just sayin’ is all. Thats what I hear/read. But you’d have to admit that the amount of console piracy is nothing compared to that on the PC.

For the record I prefer PC gaming, having played Quake in college and all that. I’d rather buy a video card every few years than a new console.

  • After paying for my gaming PC consoles are too expensive… oh the irony!
