Thanx for the info! I have one gig and for two gigs it would have worth the pain, 1.5 gig doesn't make such a difference for me.
Anyway I spared 2-3 hours of hard work and struggle thanks to this tutorial.
Viva a la internet :)

How come nobody comments on how much of an improvement taking the netbook to 1.5gb does? Is it worth it? Do you notice any speed increase?

does anyone know if you can put two 1GB ddr2 5300 in the acer aspire one 8.9" or just one?

I have two laying around and was wondering if anyone has tried yet..

1GB to 1.5 doesn't seem like much of an upgrade.. but 2BG is sounding pretty good : )

Nice
I should have read all the comments before i started. I now am a pro at taking this computer apart. The first time I put a two gig stick in and it only read (512) the Memory was not seeded. The second time I of course the 2gb did not work .Thought I did something wrong so I put it back with the 512 for the third tim . The fourth time i put a 0ne gb stick in all work fine execpt I forgot the 2 hidden screws and the ac plung was not seeded. The fith time I thought was the charm but I had to remove the keyboard to find the touch pad.... and Now I have 1.5

Check which model of Acre Aspire One netbook you have. I have a D150-1165 [mfg 0903] & I started to dissasemble it, only to realize that there is an opening on the back that invloved one screww only that provided access to the memory slot, much easier!!

Good lord !! Thanks for the tutorial. I was scared to to this but I just had to follow step by step. Just to add a little something, in the last part I had to release the left side of the board to reach the slot. There's something else in my Acer that forced me to do that.

Great video Doug- thanks a lot, you made it a much easier job and it all works well- a worthwhile mod and it seems to go faster now. Ribbon cables a bit fiddly but OK if you take it easy. Pity Acer didn't put RAM access point in the base!

Doug, what is the maximum amount of RAM allowed to be installed?

Also, is the stock 512 RAM built in?

The specifications on the Acer website says this about the RAM (A110 model):

"512 MB onboard DDR2 533 MHz SDRAM single channel with onboard SDRAM and one soDIMM slot, with up to 1 GB/1.5 GB using one 512 MB/1 GB soDIMM module"

Source:
http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/netbook/0000/Acer/AspireOneAOA110/AspireOneAOA110sp2.shtml

So the RAM currently installed is 533MHz (PC2-4200/4300), but the RAM used in this tutorial is 667MHz (PC2-5300/5400).

Source:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM#Chips_and_modules

I'm yet to order myself any RAM, and was wondering if there is any advantage to using PC2-5300 instead of PC2-4200? If 5300 is installed, will it only be run at the speed of 4200? Is the 4200 more compatible/stable?
As there are many comments form people who have followed this tutorial with 5300 and had success, I will probably go for 5300.

A final point to thoes who ask about whether 2GB or more is possible:
The specifications linked to above seem to suggest that 1.5GB is the maximum supported RAM. Models shipped with 512MB will have the 512MB onboard (fixed to the mainboard), and a free expansion slot that can take 512MB or 1GB. Models shipped with 1GB RAM will have 512MB onboard, and another 512MB already occupying the expansion slot. This is my understanding of the documentation.

I'm highly upset. I bought the AA1 a few months ago, knowing it came with 1 gb of memory already on it. I just ordered and received another g thinking I could install it and have a total of 2 g's in there, well when I followed along with the video much to my surprise the slot was already filled, so I then swapped it out with the newer memory and my AA1 is still slow. I guess I now have to take apart the whole thing again to take out the new memory to return and get a 2 gb.

I couldn't remove the last screw so I stabbed the black plastic casing from below with my knife and then pulled the screw off the motherboard. Yes, and it is still totally functional and I managed to add the extra RAM too. :)
