Perhaps consider getting a custom computer. Its much cheaper than going out to get one in retail stores and the parts are much better. Forget e-machines, you might as well get the oldest ibm using windows 95 and it will last 10x longer than a e-machines computer

Forget emachines cheap hardware regardless the price would be a problem for any os Mac or otherwise.

As for the “Day of Shame” for those not smart enough to properly install additional componets then don't!!! Vista is perfect for protecting those people from themselves (UAC). It is customizable enough to allow the rest of the world to do pretty much anything. Only takes a little tweaking for a power user, I have programs dating back to 1995 that work (with little if any tweaking).

Granted I've been baised against macs since the day I had to use them in middle school - worthless garbage (at least those were).

Only reinstallations i've ever done are 1 typical nerd cleaning up everything, or 2 harddrive failure - NEVER due to adding software or hardware (not to mention choices for additional parts for a linux/windows pc is a million times what you can get for a mac).

my experience with windows goes back to 3.1 through Vista (skipping Win ME) & some glorious dos (good ole moraffs games).

Students - remember that the Macbook laptop has an awesome student discount. When I used it a while ago, there was a free printer, free ipod, and a discount. If you need to, sell the $200 iPod, $100 printer, etc. and enjoy the laptop :)

This is a great service to parents. It should be front page for them. I build my own PC's and buy my Macs, but other could use this knowledge.
