A scammer named Paul Deery or Derry has been requesting items from vendors and PR folks while claiming to represent CrunchGear and the Philadelphia Inquirer. He does not represent CrunchGear in any capacity. If you have any questions, contact me directly at john@crunchgear.com. He has already contacted one vendor requesting PC parts.

  • What a jackoff. I hate people like that guy.

  • But guys we had tea that one time… I mean we were all leaving Micky d’s at the same time, and you guys had cups too, and I assume there was tea..I no can haz nvidia?.. j/k that guy sux

  • The guy is such a moron that he cut and pasted a story by Mike Kobrin from CG right into a word document and sent it as his “clip” to the PR guy.

  • Did he really not think anyone would check him out, or do you cg guys normally get boatloads of swag just for pointing at a byline then pointing your thumbs back at yourself and saying “this guy”? I picture him in the Captain Morgan’s pose with his foot on a monitor with bootlegged Crunchgear site up with his name all over it.

  • I can imagine someone being able to pull something like that off. I headed biz dev for an affluent lifestyle magazine and had daily deliveries by fed-ex and every other known overnight company. I gotta admit that in most cases I had to prove who I was, and if they did not know the magazine, I had to overnight a copy and my email was that of the magazine, something that could not be faked. PR people are cool and those are relationships that should not be abused. One thing to keep in mind, fraud and theft by deception for anything valued over $500 is a Felony and repeated theft this way shows a pattern of criminal activity. I think those PR firms and manufacturers that got screwed by this guy should call authorities and put an end to this type of scummy activity

  • Wow… what an asshole… I mean, that is lower than stealing… Really… hell it’s lower than my…48 hours of shame… These are the people that the legal system should be concerned about… Not people who download/upload music/video via BitTorrent.

  • Thanks for the tip… I’m currently hunting Mr. Deery/Derry/Dummy down with some help from experts at following electronic trails.

This kind of stuff makes my job very difficult, and it brings back the mean streak I had in my days as a nightclub security guard.

  • uhh Inquirer or Enquirer?
Discrepancy with the title and the article’s contents.
