I won’t go into all the gory details, but here’s a quick recap. Monolith and Sierra pushed out F.E.A.R. in 2005, but Monolith was acquired in 2004 by Warner Bros. and Sierra kept the rights to the F.E.A.R. franchise. Sierra was supposed to make the sequel with another publisher, which never transpired while Monolith and WB announced Project Origin. Earlier this year Vivendi merged with Activision and most of Sierra’s games were dropped, so WB swooped in and got the rights to the name back.

You might wonder why the Project Origin name wasn’t dropped and that’s because Monolith held a contest within the F.E.A.R. community to name the new title, so they decided to keep it. Yay! F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin will be out February 10, 2009 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
