For free: Sprint will teach its customers how to use their phones

Not everyone spends all day in front of gadget blogs and the HowardForums, learning the ins and outs of their cellphone. It’s for these “normal” people that Sprint is launching a renewed effort to teach consumers exactly what it is their cellphones can do.
The program is called “Ready Now,” and will officially be announced sometime today, when everyone is paying attention to Apple and completely ignoring everything else in tech.
Sprint employees will help consumers set up e-mail, connect Bluetooth devices, transfer contacts and so on. Customers can either do this as soon as they purchase a phone, or can schedule a 10 to 30-minute appointment for a later date.
There will be no extra charge for the service, which blows my mind.
Now, if you’re feeling cynical, you could simply view this as a ploy for Sprint to teach its customers how to use more and more data services, which are more profitable for wireless providers than plain ol’ voice.
But we’re not that cynical.

That’s a great idea. I’m always surprised that I never see any sort of training classes offered. My local Home Depot offers free classes on various home improvement projects….knowing damn well where you will go to buy the supplies you will need.
Isn’t time mobile phone stores started offering free training?
Let’s home Sprint does this right.

I’d imagine that the people reading this blog have either had to help someone use their phone or know someone that has. I hear about friends that are helping their mom’s enter contacts into the phone every now and then, and so this would address that issue.
Here’s my question - are they going to teach them how to do these things on a simpler cell phone or just any phone? It seems like a lot of the phones now are getting pretty bloated and filled with things that aren’t needed. Someone should take a step back and make a product for people who just want to make phone calls and maybe the occasional text message, not people who want to play snake, take photos with a camera, get on twitter, etc.
