Oh my. It’s this kind of stuff that makes it all worthwhile. I present to you an idea for a toaster that hooks up to your computer and can burn just about anything you throw at it onto the bread you drop into the slots – weather, news, photos – your call.
The Scan Toaster is the brainchild of designer Sung Bae Chang and is currently a finalist in the 2008 Electrolux Design Lab competition. I don’t ask for much but please, oh please, make this real some day. Check out more photos on Flickr.

OH GOD YES
I consider it one of those “useless but cool in what it can do” devices. If they actually make a working model, I can see these being popular in sandwich shops or whatever to put a logo or a small amount of text on, but not in the home.
… that being said, I want one!
Where do you get the transparent jam?
Regular jam obscures the news, making this invention useless.
Now the butter side down crowd has a leg up on the butter side uppers. Wouldn’t Seuss be proud.
