Netbooks encroaching on notebooks’ turf

netbooks

Taiwan’s Quanta Computer manufactures a lot of notebooks for a lot of companies. Apparently Quanta lost a little moolah in August and is blaming the 18.5% revenue drop on the increased popularity of netbook computers as they chip away at demand for standard notebooks. Good thing for Quanta, then, that it also manufactures netbooks. Some of its clients include Acer, Dell, HP, Fujitsu, and Lenovo, all of whom have netbooks they need whipped up in short order.

It’ll be interesting to see if Quanta will be able to make up for lost revenue when it’s producing netbooks at lower prices than notebooks – should be a good indication of demand.
