I'm still not buying. Until SecuROM is totally gone, I won't be buying this or any other game sporting it. As much of a pain as Steam was when HL2 came out, at least it is transparent and is actually a useful tool for me to use and is easily removed. I've actually grown fond of it. SecuROM is a hijacker, and I'll kill it anyway I can. I've never pirated a game before in my life, but if this goes on for very much longer, I'm considering torrenting a copy just to bolster the pirate statistics going around the web. Not good enough.
