TiVo: Give me Hulu.com access and I’ll be yours forever

I have a proposal for you TiVo. If you give me Hulu.com access, I will buy your expensive lifetime subscription plan. The implantation has to be better than the lackluster YouTube support though, along with giving full and complete access through a browsable interface too.

You see TiVo, the YouTube access is great, but I really don’t want to watch babies laughing or unicorns prancing on my HDTV. I wanna watch Hulu’s high-def, or even standard-def, content because it was originally meant for, well, TV. You can even leave in the commercials ’cause Hulu on my TV would rock even with them.

Hulu has full-length TV episodes, in high quality, of my fav shows. The site has Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Office, Family Guy, Fringe, and most the rest. Sure, I know I could download them and put ‘em my media server, but you know what, I don’t want to do that stuff anymore. It’s a pain, but more importunity, my wife can’t do it. I want her to be able to browse TV shows like we used to with Comcast VOD, but with quality content instead of their pathetic selection.

Don’t get me wrong, the YouTube access is great; my wife and baby love the clips as neither one have explored Internet video sites before. As for me though, I have seen my fair share and am happy to watch the occasional clip on my computer. Plus, YouTube on my TiVo seems so limited as there isn’t a good way to peruse around the clips and if you are to agree to my propsal, which will have to change for the Hulu support.

There will have to be a way to look over the content that is snappy but complete. None of the “Most viewed” or “Top Rated” limited shortcuts that the TiVo support relies on. Hell guys, I don’t know what it should look like, but you’re the company that came up with the greatest remote of all time. Someone around there knows something about UI. Ask him.

My hand is up high TiVo, don’t leave me hanging bro. You need to get Hulu on my box and soon. Seriously, if you do, I will buy your $399 lifetime subscription and be your best bud forever.

  • And I want Hulu on my iPhone, we all can’t get what we want.

    • This is something NBC/News corp. should want for Hulu too. Both the iPhone and TiVo are far more useful platforms for something like Hulu than the desktop might be. iPhone is in a bajillion hands, and portable. TiVo is in the living room, where people watch TV. They’d both bring in a ton of additional traffic, which means a ton of additional ad revenue.

  • And i want to enjoy Huly.com in europe …. but we can’t all get what we want :)

But we hope sooner or later

  • I agree with this %100. Access to the full list of shows on Hulu through TiVo should be a no-brainer.

  • I fully agree, i want hulu on tivo / ps3 / wii / Xbox

    • You CAN access Hulu on your TV via Wii, PS3, or Xbox – just not through TiVo and the moment (much to my disappointment). Playon is downloadable software for $40 (one time fee, no subscriptions) that you put on your computer and then you use your console to connect and watch. They have a 2-week free trial before you buy, I recommend trying it out to see if it is buggy for you before you pay the license fee. We ran into a couple of issues with quality as well as freezing 3/4 of the way through the show. The rewind/fast forward options with it also leave a lot to be desired. Overall though, $40 is a small investment when looking to get network on TV without cable or satelite.
In our house we have eliminated cable/satelite and use TiVo for digital antenna reception. We also use Netflix, the occasional Amazon VOD, and PlayOn for some shows. Our fees were broken down like this:
Previously with satelitte – $80/mo approx.
Now – $40 one time fee for playon
$250 one time fee for Tivo HD Receiver
      $16.99/mo for Netflix
      $12.99/mo for Tivo
$5.00/mo (occasionally) for VOD from Amazon

So for an initial investment of $300 I cut my TV Viewing bill in half and still get the shows I watched before, with the added bonus of free movies on demand as well, and less of the annoying ads (yes, there are still some ads, but far fewer).
I could even save more if I had more upfront money by getting the TiVo lifetime subscription (lifetime of device, not my life) instead of the monthly one.

  • I totally agree! The moment this happens, I’m kissing satellite and cable TV good-bye. All I’ll need is my local HD stations OTA, and a good internet connection (can’t totally part w/ cable I guess). I’ll have access to all the content I need.

  • A better motivation for Tivo is for you to buy the monthly subscription and never churn out.

Investors like the monthly much better than flat fee customers…

  • Well, I haven’t heard of anything coming up for Hulu on Tivo, but it looks like Hulu on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, HP MediaSmart TV, and eventually even Wii is looking promising:

  • I’d like to see TiVo add this too, but for $200 a DLink DivX Connected box will give you complete access to Hulu without the service fee, plus access to most of your other internet video files. I’ve used the box to catch up on a couple of shows that I missed and for the most part it works pretty well. The only drawback was that I could pause rewind or fast forward the programming, but considering that the functionality is still in beta, I can live with that.

  • If Tivo makes it possible to watch Hulu I will sign up again for sure!
