There is absolute no way on this green earth that I would ride a bike with these LEDs on any street with the exception of maybe a deserted Montana road or in a sleepy Vermont town. Sure, the LED-powered wheels might bring a smile to some folks, but somehow I don’t think everyone is going to be smiling with you. The images come from a single LED device, dubbed the Joyrider, affixed to the spokes and controlled by microchips to correctly display the face, but the muggers aren’t going to care ’bout that when they are bashing your cheery face into the curb.

Where can this be ordered? Cost?
Seems like this will allow motorists to better see a cyclist at night from the side. Front and side lights not really visible to cars from side.
check the links.
“Two Joyriders were shown off at the ICA 2008 Gala earlier this year, where they were sold for over $3,600.”
cost: your dignity.
The editors at crunchgear seem to have a deep hatred for a lot of technology, especially bluetooth headsets.
What?
I meant how there always seem to be articles here bashing bluetooth headsets, and almost any type of “style” gear (for lack of a better term) like electronics embedded into sunglasses or so are also bashed.
Those darn bluetooths! Why can’t we just stick to reading newspapers and pushing hoops with sticks down a dirt road!
It’s true, you’ve nailed it. We write about technology only to spread our hatred of it.
i think its a cool concept. first say them doing it with rims. But ill b honest with you… I wouldn’t be caught riding that either.
i agree with you.
