Bond… James Bond… James Bond’s watch

If you want to be like Bond (and I think we all do, especially since he became such a cold-blooded, murderous bastard), you should probably start small. The Aston Martin is probably not going to happen (face it), nor the women, nor the guns, nor the intrigue. At least you’ve got the drinking! And, if you’re really dedicated, you might get his watch. While its guts are the same as the Omega Planet Ocean 45mm — and that’s not a bad thing, since that watch costs three grand — the face is designed to look like a Walther PPK grip (kind of awesome).

You may also notice a slight advertisement etched into the dome. I tend to avoid those, but if you’re a real Bond freak it’s probably more to put in the “Pros” column.

And no, it doesn’t laser people.

Beautiful watch. Though, I’ll never understand how 5,000 of anything can be considered a limited edition. Let alone 5007.

The PPK is sweet.

I recently purchased a Beretta Storm because it spoke to me from behind the counter. I may finally have to track down a Walther.

That’s quite a nice watch. Automatic, 600m/2000ft water resistant and not all that 4in1 clock face. Simple and good. Still, I don’t have 2,700 Euro and also still like mine: http://blog.tice.de/beitrag.php?file=2005_09_25_1235 (Automatic, 100m)

If you want to spend this kind of money on a watch, you might as well invest in a model that will actually be worth more than what you paid for it years from now - something like a Rolex Submariner, a watch worn by the 007 character before the movie franchise began whoring itself with ridiculous product placements.

The 007 character used to drive Aston Martins and wear Rolexes, but now it’s pimping BMWs and cheesy Omega watches with movie titles slapped on the dial.

I owned an Omega a while back and the numbered bezel plate actually fell right off after a couple years. As if that didn’t speak volumes about crappy materials and workmanship, the icing on the cake was when Omega informed me that they didn’t stock a replacement part. The company made a semi-decent model or two several decades ago, but their current lineup isn’t exactly among the most admired or sought after by collectors and watch enthusiasts. Huge waste of money for gullible and ignorant buyers.

I’ve never been a fan of the all-metal diving watches (I have a great leather banded vintage Zodiac) but I hear what you’re saying. If I were to spend a few grand on a watch, I’d be asking around with people like you and Biggs, who’s another watch guy.

I feel the same way about the watch. I really dig the watch and love James Bond films, but I don’t think I’d drop $3000 on a James Bond watch. I’d buy a watch that would increase in value over the years. Nobody but Bond fans will care about this watch a year from now…
