Wario Land: Shake It advertisement breaks Youtube

Wow. Whoever came up with this new ad for Wario Land: Shake it deserves a raise and a paid vacation to Cancun or something. They’ve taken a basic concept of the game and managed to make it into creative and effective marketing on a platform where even the most humdrum viral campaigns tend to flourish. Screenshots don’t really do it justice, so be sure to check it out yourself.
(For extra awesome, play the video again without refreshing the page to watch things continue to bust apart.)

Who knew web pages were so structurally unsound?
Now I’m going to be extra careful visiting Twitter. That whale might actually be held up by birdies…

Is this comment-system broken, or am I just doing something wrong? (Never mind, don’t answer that…)
As I was saying, this reminds me of the Dutch store HEMA: http://producten.hema.nl/ (wait a few seconds after loading).

reminds me of a “pseudo” computer virus i wrote back in high school dubbed cascade, where it dropped/trickled all the letters from the top of the word precessing (word perfect) screen down to the bottom. mostly harmless but totally freaked people out in the computer lab while they were working on their term papers…
nice implementation. we did something similar, although not as grand, back for a prototype for Nascar.com that shook the browser window when the page finished loading the flash applets…

Whoa, you wrote Cascade!?? I remember when I was in elementary school and our computer lab teacher was trying to explain the concept of a computer virus to us, and she described how they could make letters start falling off the top of the screen, obviously having had some experience with your little creation! i remember my eight-year-old self was quite impressed. ;)

Yea it’s a nice idea but poorly excuted if you think about. You can’t even use the scroller or many other assets so you have to sit through it (or atleast if your not a interactive designer you’d think so). It’s a great idea for sure, but could of been a lot better. I sure hope this doesn’t win any awards…

Great ad
but man… is this ad going to better than the Game???
It seems like it. The head ad maker and the head game maker need to change jobs.

Boy you sure can tell the difference in generations here by the reaction &/or criticism to this… don’t know if I felt so old or so disgusted by the youth of today until right now… Is it really that challenging for the younguns of today to be polite or courteous when they disagree?
