Seriously. His name is Yves Rossy and he’s a Swiss airline pilot by day and adventurer by night. The 22-mile flight took him only 10 minutes and he had hoped to reach 125 MPH. He started by jumping out of a small, French plane and quickly flipped on the jet pack. From there he attempted to follow the route Louis Blériot took 99 years ago when he became the first man to cross the Channel in a plane. Once over his target, he simply parachuted down. All this happened just minutes ago (1207 GMT or 8:07 a.m. est), but National Geographic has a special about the historic flight tonight, 8 PM et/pt. The crazy part, he steers with his head. Seriously.
Video was from yesterday before he crossed the Channel.

This. Is. Awesome. Best Friday news in a long, long time. Can’t wait to read more about it.
Hmm….so when are they coming out with electric jetpacks for personal flight? that would be something - - although I’m not sure how it would work if everybody was flying around instead of driving.
Sweet stunt though.
Even the headline says Swiss… where did you pull the french from?
Cool nevertheless
are you incapable of reading? it says a swiss pilot in the first line, the only mention of something being french is the airplane
I can’t believe this guy actually made it…
what happens to his head
That is absolutely insane!!

That wasn’t flying, that was falling… with style!
wow…that is something really amazing.well done to the man
Finally someone more insane then me, Props to you bro!!!.
Lol, this would have made the germans happy back in the 40’s
It great to see an individual conceive, design, build and test their creations successfully. This is where many, if not most, of the technological achievement are born.
“He started by jumping out of a small, French plane”
I can fly around the world without a jet pack if you start me high enough. Seriously, start on the ground or it’s meaningless.
How is the guy going to take off from the ground? Run really fast? What he needs is a really high cliff to jump from but that still may not be a safe height to get the kind of speed he needs to light his pack and get altitude. Short of some kind of jet boost that shoots him a thousand feet in the air - and what about the G forces there? - it doesn’t seem very feasible to take off from the ground.
Very cool. Soon we will all be able to fly that way to work.. Imagine the safety problems!! With people running into each other in the sky.

Wow… you guys had never heard of this guy before? geez. He’s been all over the Internet for months now.
Awesome stuff.
VERY nice stunt. Huge improvement over the 10-20 second ‘jet pack’ flights we’ve seen over the past several decades. Can’t wait to see his (or others’) next step in this field.
That is the difference between swiss and american ingenuity:
Last american to think of doing something like this bought a kit from ACME (made in China).
