New to DVR w/ Pc... I own a HTPC system with cyber link dvd ultra 9 that can read apparently tivo file formats and dvr file formats. Can I simply use sata to point at the dvr or external tera drive n play on pc. Do I need a dvr software or tivo software to convert. Don't know what format that a Direct tv HR22 saves. I have high end htpc and love it. The resolution is extreme for audio n video. Want to either just use htpc for recorded shows n movies or even direct to HTPC... anyone know where to send me or give me insight?

[...] Later today, presumably in the afternoon when everyone is awake, they will finally announce the software kit that will turn your PC into a Tivo box. Set to launch on October 15th, the Nero LiquidTV/TiVo PC will retail for $199, but those with a built-in TV tuner can opt for just the software, which will go for $99. The kit also entitles you to a year’s subscription with renewal fees of an additional $99. Read more… [...]

A few years ago when I discoverd that TIVOs lifetime subscription was the lifetime of the Tivo box, not me, I switched to PC Based Tivo-like service. It works as well as Tivo, only better. No fees to pay every year, it's just there. I have expanded to 2 computers and someday soon the TV will be gone.

Smart way to use their name recognition. Share of mind when it comes to DVR/PVR always goes to TiVo... althought there are tons like it already out, people would still get TiVo-PC cause that's what they're used to.

I wonder how long after it's released it'll be out on Torrent with cracked executables. :)

It does sound like a good idea, but its already been done. You can get way better features with SageTV, VMC, BeyondTV and other HTPC software programs out there without paying $100 a year for the guide.
