[...] There is nothing wrong with your computer. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. You have not awaken in a crazy, alternate reality where HD DVD won the format war. But Toshiba has unrolled the firmware 4.0 update for its HD DVD players to improve playback issues like a pause bug. We’d make fun of Toshiba mercilessly for the update, but it’s actually a classy move to support one’s tech even when the market has declared it extinct. Nice work, Toshiba.
See! This is just another justification for my reasoning, HD-DVD is rising it's head from the bloody pool ready to make a victorious comeback, it's going to sneak up like low capacity, more cost efficient, and more practical technology ninja and slit Sony's throat! Watch!

Amen to that. Frankly, wouldn't it be great if someone with the skills, the tools and the necessary info, hacked, I mean, reverse-engineered, I mean... unleashed all the possibilities ;) these gorgeous, beefy machines are capable of? Just think of the potential: implementing support to play back HD DivX/Xvid/mkv, activating that USB2.0 port at the front so you could stream all sorts of stuff from a hard-drive or USB memory... Yikes, I almost drooled my laptop to a short-circuit just thinking of it.

If I were Toshiba, I would dump all licensing fees and release every aspect of HD-DVD under GPL. I'd love to see BDA compete with 'free'. At the very least, it might drag the prices of Blu-Ray players AND movies in to the realm of sensibility.
