TV is history. Apple looks to the future. The Apple TV is about viewing stored videos, not watching over the air broadcasts.

I have a DVR (EyeTV) but use it about three times a year. Now and again I look at the TV listings but just can't find anything interesting.

Between this being a dead end product and Tivo already doing a reasonably good job I doubt Apple will get into this product line.

I'll go out on a limb and predict that the new Apple product will be a portable, HD projector with connections for laptops and a slot for the iPhone and iPod. Something about 6" x 4" x 2" that projects an HD image up to about 30 to 50" diagonal. It would be a great complement for sharing videos with friends. It would be a nice way to view a personal video at home when the rest of the family is viewing something else and it would be killer for sales people giving Keynote presentations to small groups. This technology has been on the verge of coming out for some time now. Maybe this is the breakthrough moment. Using lasers instead of a light bulb lets it get small and lightweight.

I have a feeling this is the reason SlingBox is getting the kibosh in the App Store.

I think an Apple DVR would have a really tough run with TiVo. My TiVo is awesome. It can compete with Apple's iTunes / Apple TV with its partnership with Amazon.com for Movie Rentals. The DVR itself has a very easy interface and it just works really well. TiVo also already has software available for transferring recordings to Windows PCs and mobile devices. And you can get un-official software like TiVo Butler to transfer recordings to Macs (which has worked very well with my Macbook Pro).

If there was a fire, I might even run back in to save that wonderful black box.

If the price is right I would buy it... Assuming that it has the one feature I have been waiting for...

I want to be able to easily sync the TV shows I record to a portable video device to watch during my commute...

So... If they do have that... they will get two sales from me... the new DVR and an iPod Touch

I don't think DVRs have begun to age yet. There are still a lot of people on dial up, so broadband isn't the answer yet. The DVR from my cable company is not really usable and causes profound problems. I would love to see Apple TV become a DVR among other new features. I want the Apple experience on my TV.

The price will not be right on this, not even close to right. Apple stuff costs way too much, their products are great but Mac overprices everything. Build a Myth TV box for cheaper than the Mac DVR, it will give you way more options.

None of the above!!

I won't buy an AppleDVR, not because I hate Apple or because I am "happy with what I have now".

I won't buy it because linear delivery of filmed entertainment is DEAD.

The DVR gave linear delivery ten years of life support, but it's now a rotting corpse that people keep beating. Give it up. Non-linear delivery is the future.

I'd buy it if the price is right but price for this kind of box isn't just purchase price, it's how much it costs to buy content. In my mind the Apple DVR has to be able to really replace my cable service before I'll consider it. To do that it needs record my OTA digital for free so I don't have to pay for network shows, it has to offer some level of channel surfing capability for the off-season/off-hours when there just isn't anything worth watching on the networks, and it needs a reasonably priced on demand TV service.
