Personally, I think it's more distracting and unnatural to look at it on the left. It works well for me in the center down toward the bottom. It's not obstructing my view at all and it's a more natural glance that allows me to see it easily, rather than have it wedged into the left corner nearly right in my face which actually feels more unsafe, especially since it make a new blind spot.
