Obama buys channel on Dish Network: Broadcasts his message 24/7

Call: Barack Obama has so much money…
Response: How much money?
Call: He has so much money that he can buy a channel on Dish Network, where he’ll pump his campaign messages 24/7.
If you’re keen to check out Obama’s channel, tune in to channel 73. It runs through November.
And no, it’s not Dish Network endorsing Obama or anything. It’s merely a paid advertisement. If McCain would pony up the cash, I’m sure Dish would be more than happy to accept it and run his ads on loop.
Off topic, but: is anyone else a little tired of Palin’s “folksy” attitude. We get it: you’re the average American. Good for you.

Another reason I will be dumping Dish Network.
I hope he didn’t buy a channel on Fios.

I’m getting a little sick of snotty tech bloggers acting like we give a crap what their political views are.
You aren’t even very good at blogging about gadgets, Nicholas. Leave the politics to the big boys.

Deleon does a good job blogging about tech.
My problem isn’t in “Palin’s folksy attitude” - my problem is in always HEARING about Palin’s folksy attitue. I am so unbelievably burned out by this election cycle that I just can’t take it anymore. I think it was a huge mistake to jump start the cycle as early as the parties did, because the constant coverage is generating increasing apathy. I stopped watching anything involving the candidates anymore, because its devolved into a child’s game of “he said this” and “she said this, but this way” and “McCain is old” and “Obama is a Muslim”. ENOUGH ALREADY.
Our politicians need to grow up and debate some issues, instead of sounding off on sound bites. I’m saddened McCain’s campaign degenerated into a contest to appeal to the lowest denominator of voters in our country, and equally saddened the tactics paid off in the polls. What’s almost as sad is Obama’s campaign mimicking this strategy, because it clearly paid off.
Its become impossible to follow coverage of this thing, because every journalist I read either denounces Palin as an incompetent person or loves her because she energized the base of the Republican party. I would have forgotten the way she speaks by now, if people would stop lambasting her for it.

“is anyone else a little tired of Palin’s “folksy” attitude?”… Indeed. But, doesn’t Tina Fey do a great impression?

Actually, I’m tired of Obama’s “black” attitude. Never once does he mention he is also half white. It bothers me to no end.

Obama has done a great job doing the exact opposite. Other than his “would have to see his dance moves before determining if he’s actually a brother” comment (in reference to Bill Clinton being the first “black president”) about six months ago, I haven’t heard anything. In fact, he’s given entire speeches to minority groups that never would have come from Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.

I love TechCrunch but Im in agreement with some of the folks (get it) here. We understand you dont like the McCain ticket and all of that. Great, congratulations and all of that.
I read this site for TECH NEWS. Not to know that YOUR candidate bought a month’s worth of advertising on Dish (which is all this amounts to).
Personally Im not tired of her folks(y) anything. Its who she is by almost every account (left and right). Id rather someone be themselves than pander to what people think she ought to be.
Now write some tech stuff or put this sort of thing over on Gawker which I stopped reading.

Just can’t let an article with a political newsbit go by without some bias, right?
I’m tired of elitists like you, Nick, who can’t stand her message, yet feel it’s OK to attack the person (calling someone “folksy” is an insult).
Stick to technology. Get off her back.

Whatever. It’s an innocuous little comment. If you Republicans weren’t so sensitive you’d just move on. But no, you gotta just keep whining every time anyone says anything that could be perceived as partisan. Get over it.

I’ve never come to this site for the political commentary. It has no place here. If I wanted political opinions, I’d go to a political opinion site.

Nobody forces you to come here, and this isn’t the only “company” doing tech news. Go try Fox.com/gadgetopia or something if you are so sensitive about one little comment that wasn’t even negative. Whiner.

LOL. You guys are funny. Can Nick have his opinion and Palin be folksy and Obamam be black, and… well mccain be mccain. I think comments are better than post some times.
Silly kids.

I’m tired of the folksy attitude. I grew up dirt poor in a rural area. I could shove a severed deer leg up Palin’s nose and be happy about it. I guess that makes me elitist. Maybe if I had a job, I’d feel elitist. Maybe if anyone in my family had full employment, we’d feel elitist. Fortunately the Dish network serves many people in rural areas where the cable don’t go.

You’re right. Perhaps I won’t anymore.
Personally, the folksy bit is laid on a little thick. But the “I worked my way up from being a poor inner-city kid” line plays a little thick out here in flyover country. Y’all that live like ants on the east and west coasts would be wise to remember that there are as many of us as there are of you, and we’re growing faster.
This is exactly why political commentary should be absent here, or risk driving away readership. People of all sorts can come together to read about gadgets and get along great.
Whenever someone sticks in a comment that can be considered political, this garbage starts up. One side starts whining, then idiots start with the “If you don’t like it, stay home!”, and then it’s on.
It’s no more appropriate to suggest that conservatives go away than to suggest that liberals, blacks, Windows users, rich people, or Catholics do so. Perhaps some people find Palin’s folksiness repellant. I find a ticket that consists of two rich east-coast liberal lawyers that have had life handed to them on a silver platter repellant.
Personally, I wish they would do away with the ability to post comments most everywhere on the internet. It does nothing but reduce the signal to noise ratio.
If I am driven from Crunch, it will be by the published stories, not the ignorance of the comments.

Am I tired of Palin, the average woman that you liberals hate? Not at all. I fully plan on seeing plenty of her the next four years as our VP.

Hey Dustin, she IS the average American. She worked hard to make the money that she has - she didn’t rob someone as a lawyer in order to get it nor did she rise in her career solely because of her husband.

I for one enjoy hearing everyone’s opinion of our political figures. If it weren’t for NBC, CBS, MSNBC, ABC, Comedy Central, and every tech blog on the internet, I would run out of ways to blast the Republicans. How original of you to jump on the bandwagon and attack Palin? When’s the last time you heard any media outlet mention anything about Obama being a millionare? or making jokes about the fact that he thought there were 57 states? I understand everyone makes gaffs, but had it been McCain who said that, we’d still be hearing about it.
At least I know where Crunchgear stands. Next time I’ll get my tech gear info at Best Buy. The guys in the store don’t go around throwin jabs at Palin.

To be fair I’m pretty sure Obama stated himself he’s got a good life and well off. He doesn’t claim he’s an average American near as much as Palin. Nothing against the idea, it’s fairly obvious it works for her to lure in all the hicks and rednecks with such lovely quotes as these:
“Y’all that live like ants on the east and west coasts would be wise to remember that there are as many of us as there are of you, and we’re growing faster.”
