To be fair I’m pretty sure Obama stated himself he’s got a good life and well off. He doesn’t claim he’s an average American near as much as Palin. Nothing against the idea, it’s fairly obvious it works for her to lure in all the hicks and rednecks with such lovely quotes as these:

“Y’all that live like ants on the east and west coasts would be wise to remember that there are as many of us as there are of you, and we’re growing faster.”

I for one enjoy hearing everyone’s opinion of our political figures. If it weren’t for NBC, CBS, MSNBC, ABC, Comedy Central, and every tech blog on the internet, I would run out of ways to blast the Republicans. How original of you to jump on the bandwagon and attack Palin? When’s the last time you heard any media outlet mention anything about Obama being a millionare? or making jokes about the fact that he thought there were 57 states? I understand everyone makes gaffs, but had it been McCain who said that, we’d still be hearing about it.

At least I know where Crunchgear stands. Next time I’ll get my tech gear info at Best Buy. The guys in the store don’t go around throwin jabs at Palin.

You’re right. Perhaps I won’t anymore.
Personally, the folksy bit is laid on a little thick. But the “I worked my way up from being a poor inner-city kid” line plays a little thick out here in flyover country. Y’all that live like ants on the east and west coasts would be wise to remember that there are as many of us as there are of you, and we’re growing faster.

This is exactly why political commentary should be absent here, or risk driving away readership. People of all sorts can come together to read about gadgets and get along great.

Whenever someone sticks in a comment that can be considered political, this garbage starts up. One side starts whining, then idiots start with the “If you don’t like it, stay home!”, and then it’s on.

It’s no more appropriate to suggest that conservatives go away than to suggest that liberals, blacks, Windows users, rich people, or Catholics do so. Perhaps some people find Palin’s folksiness repellant. I find a ticket that consists of two rich east-coast liberal lawyers that have had life handed to them on a silver platter repellant.

Personally, I wish they would do away with the ability to post comments most everywhere on the internet. It does nothing but reduce the signal to noise ratio.

If I am driven from Crunch, it will be by the published stories, not the ignorance of the comments.

I’m tired of the folksy attitude. I grew up dirt poor in a rural area. I could shove a severed deer leg up Palin’s nose and be happy about it. I guess that makes me elitist. Maybe if I had a job, I’d feel elitist. Maybe if anyone in my family had full employment, we’d feel elitist. Fortunately the Dish network serves many people in rural areas where the cable don’t go.
