How TiVo saved last night

In case you didn’t notice, two chumps dominated every damn TV station last night and almost ruined my evening. They were spouting off during my prime TV viewing time and I didn’t feel like listening to lies after lies. So, my wife watched 90210 off of the TiVo and I worked on a couple of CrunchGear reviews. But after she was done, she handed me the remote to find something else to watch - and there was nothing on! Nothing I tell you, but that stupid town hall debate. We had already watched all of our shows on the TiVo, were caught up on subscribed Bit Torrent’d shows and TiVo doesn’t offer Hulu access; I thought my night was ruined. Then it hit me!
TiVo Suggestions! There were 13 items in the TiVo Suggestions folder, it served up two delightful Seinfeld episodes that were far more entertaining than Obama and McCain’s tiresome rhetoric. I don’t think I had ever watched a TiVo suggested show before, but after last night’s rescue, I’m going to make sure the feature is always turned on.
So, from my family, I would like to publicly thank you TiVo for saving us from the debate last night. We love you.

I couldn’t agree more, however my wife also enjoys the new 90210 so my Tivo suggestions are very often Soap Opera type shows as a result. However yes Tivo really is the best investment ever. I am fairly confident, even with me as well frequenting the Pirate Bay for a lovely backlog of TV shows it still is the best option.
The only negative of Tivo is my growing contempt with watching any commercials.

Man, you missed McCain’s great imitation of Grandpa Simpson. That was not to be missed!
And Tom Brokaw complaining about the candidates standing in the way of his script. Priceless.

Am I the only one who weeps a little for our democracy reading this post?

I think, Steve and John, you guys almost miss the point–we’re a tech site, presumably read by tech enthusiasts. Yes, we do non-tech things, but the guy or gal who visits and reads the site doesn’t necessarily want to hear about how we spent our evening reading Heart of Darkness. Now, if we spend our evening building an HTPC or, as Matt did, screw around with our TiVo, it’s a little more relevant. That’s all.

I very much understand that you’re a tech site, thank you very much.
And I don’t expect you to espouse your political beliefs, your reading choices (unless tech related), or anything like that.
However, you DID just espouse your political beliefs in that you pointed out how little you seem to care about who is running for president and *that* is what’s sad.

That being said, not watching last night’s debate does not mean you have to strongly worry about the state of our country. Frankly as I see it debates are for those who have not decided yet or need reinforcement that they are in fact voting for the right person. Many people have already made up their mind, as this has been an amazingly long campaign and many have done their independent research.
I didn’t watch the debate last night, not because I don’t care who is President but rather I am not a big fan of Tom Brokaw.
Also Tivo just flat out rocks and sometimes its nice to see an article that’s main point is just that with all of the various DVR options out there the first mainstream DVR really is the best still.
