Rumor: External Blu-ray drive coming to the Xbox 360

Umm. I don’t know about this one.

Xbitlabs is reporting that Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology Corp has been charged with pumping out external Blu-ray drives for the Xbox 360. They will supposedly retail anywhere from $100 to $150. Not citing any sources makes this one a bit hard to believe. There’s also speculation that Microsoft could launch this external drive for the holiday shopping season, which is basically now, but could happen at CES. Hell, maybe they’ll announce it at TGS.

I’d have to agree with your skepticism. This rumor has been flying for a while, and the Msoft keeps denying it.

Of couse they deny it, that means they backed a loser and Sony won, which they wont ever want to admit to but it’s stupid to not eventaully find a Blu-Ray manufacturer to create addons for their system. Especially seeing as Sony would be having to come out with an HD-DVD addon to make it the mutimedia center that justified its disgusting price.

I agree it smells like Bull.

Yeah… this rumor has been around for probably a year now…

Why would they do that when there’s already HD-DVD! Obviously the superior decision.

I won’t lie, if they release this I’m going to buy it, then I’ll essentially have no need for a PS3 what so ever. I wonder if you can run the HD-DVD and the Blu-ray add-on together? That is if they ever do release this, which I would be surprised.
