LG Wirewize to help consumers with home theater setup and it’s surprisingly for free
by Matt Burns on October 10, 2008

Setting up a home theater that can be a daunting task and that’s where LG thinks Wirewize can help. The service is suprisingly free and easy to use. Simply input your all of your AV gear and it tells you how to hook it up. I found that it doesn’t have everything in the database - like my Onkyo TX-DS797 reciever - but has the most modern equipment listed; I guess it’s time for me to upgrade. I’m still trying to figure out the profit angle here, but for the most part, might be a big help to some.

  • Interesting, but it was just plain wrong. It told me to use component cables even though all of my gear has HDMI — not an RCA connector in sight on my setup. Also, Oppo isn’t on the list for DVD players and no mention at all of network media tanks, e.g. Popcorn Hour and iStar. Interesting though.

As to the profit angle, I suspect they’re gaining huge insight into the market and their competitors.
