I believe I'm with you on that one. I'm planning on getting one of these new MBPs, but I still don't like the idea that they need to get together 1000 press and broadcast their new product all over the world. If they'd updated, had a little party, and seeded a few videos, I'd have been much happier. But like you say, now it's necessary...

Oooohhhh... Another set of upgrades! How cool! What an example of waste! Dell and other normal companies are upgrading their hardware all the time! How conceded can a company be to think that introducing an upgraded laptop requires an entire press and marketing event!

But it is really not their fault. It is our fault for thinking that their press events are anything other than a chance for their executives to go on stage and pat themselves on the back for doing what other companies have been doing forever without all the glamour and glitz.

Yeah, a 24" screen deserves this event...

Wait a minute! A unibody construction!!!!! Wow, because I want my laptop to be rigid and strong because I play toss with it with my 3 year old! It is a laptop for goodness sake! It is not a plane.

And what is the deal with the market numbers? Why don't you look all over the world and include corporate sales and not just retail sales? What's wrong? 3.6% is not good enough to be able to gloat about?

Again, our fault for reading this which causes sites like this to cover these ridiculous events.

Just my two cents...

BTW, as a disclaimer, I do own two iMacs, an eMac, and two iPhones. I like the products, I just don't like the hype.

Seriously, why not just merge the MB and MBP lines - they basically look identical now and they've confounded size with feature set... maybe take a page from BMW and call them the macbook 3, 5, and 7 series (when they release the new 17")...
