Tweeter Audio/Video to close its doors?

Circuit City isn’t the only brick and mortor retailer stuggling as Tweeter might soon be shutting down. The retailer’s CEO was replaced by a restructuring firm exec and sent out a nice little letter to all the employees.

“in light of the current extreme economic conditions and the company’s recent performance,” and that the move “is in the best interest of the company, as well as all other parties in interest.”

The move he is referring to is a “temporary transition period” – sounds like transition to the unemployment office to me. The retailer was just bought out of its 2007 bankruptcy but apparently this whole financial crisis hasn’t helped sales. So know the question is: who will go under first? Circuit City or Tweeter?

  • I’m a Tweeter Employee, and let me tell you firsthand, our management is 100% responsible for our failure. They sit in the Glass Palace up in Canton MA, where it seems every two weeks they change the companies direction. Last week we were supposed to be Crestron Dealers who gave $60K estimates without flinching. This week we’re now supposed to bash the competition and sell only AUDIO. They actually TOLD US to not expect anyone to “just want a TV”. These guys are FOOLS!!! Have they not SEEN a Best Buy parking lot? Unless I missed a recent influx of ka-gillionaires, things are tough out there. This last chapter of Tweeter will hurt customers who actually want to know what they are buying, but we’ll be remembered by having a management that didn’t actually know what we were selling. Way to fuck it up Canton…

PS- Our Insurance has recently been set to expire January 1st, supposedly to be taken over by a new policy. I’m sure that new policy is C.O.B.R.A.

Lol… thank god i’ve got a job offer elsewhere.

  • NOT FUCKING FUNNY!!!!

  • Where did you hear that about the insurance switch? Is it on The Wire?! cause I didn’t see shit about that situation.

Get with your HR rep. They mentioned it on a conference call and just like everything else at Tweeter, the information was not relayed to everyone.

  • Say bye bye to the custom install department as there it will be most likely dissolved after November 14th. No severance package, just a Google map to the nearest unemployment office. The scheduling Dept is no longer allowed to schedule anything after the 14th on November.

So sad, it was such a good company to work for…SA, not Tweeter. I wish everyone (below the management level) the best luck out there.
Steve N. – I hear they need night shift managers over at the McD’s. You might be able to direct people placing meat on buns…Then again you’ll probably screw that up.

  • Not a surprise, I left the company four months ago, I seen the writing on the wall, playing games with our bonus and the PNL games. It was a great place to work 2 years ago.
The upper management is the reason for failure. My RSM was an idiot. A snail had more common sense. Guierrlla marketing, look where it got you.
They let the good guys go and kept the crap and now it caught up to them.
Well good luck to all you Tweeter guys below upper management.

Well hate to say it but your all right!!!
Back in June the regional for 2A told me that my time was limited with the company due to lack in sales, looks likes so is his “karma’s a bitch” . After everthing i had done. Went to new tranning help remodel the store on my own time. Did delivery’s with my own truck. I sat in a store with no traffic where they paid people $15 an hr to pickup a phone!!I got out so should all of you who are still there. the company does not care about the sales staff, just the bottom line. And it looks like the end is finaly here. It’s a shame that tweeter had to go out this way. But when you put people in charge that have no clue what there doing what do you expect.

Don’t think for a min that, it was directed twards you. i was pissed off and venting. You know me better than that. Please excused me for my comment. I know for a fact that you guys did a hell of alot more than anwser the phone. Your right when the dust settles life will go on. I just think that it sucks how it all transpired. Oh and by the way for what you girls did you where under paid!!

  • Hey Phil,
The girls need a metal for all the crap they dealt with the service center. One of the reasons for Tweeters down fall. We all deserve metals for dealing with KL and his games.
The put bean heads like installers who where demoted from management back in charge of stores. A guy that failed once before will fail again.
We all where sold a bag of goods, Im just happy I told KL to stick it up his ass. It felt good.
It was fun while it lasted. If you need jobs look me up you know where to find me.
    Best wishes.

Couldn’t agree more, i know when i put my foot in my mouth. And i did, just hope the people i offended will forgive me. I think that all my previous co workers know me for who i am. I wear my heart on my sleeves. i was pissed off and i don’t even work for tweeter anymore. It’s a lesson well learned and i won’t make this mistake agian.

  • L M A O!!!!!!!!!

  • [redacted] was fired this week FYI.

  • good, the guy is a worthless POS.

they hired used car salesmen who could care less about music or the customer, who would pride themselves on selling a $50 warrantey on $100 vcr at store level .idiots like zoppo at management, yet? k.josepowitz? let him rot in the mall.professer ira cohen? chain him to the orange julius!!!!!!! the boy from chicago, they deserved better. and fuck you sung .

  • I was thinking about coming in and buying a high end TV and audio system… But based on what I have read here, I might be better served by heading straight to (Almost) Best Buy. I want to know that the company I buy from will be there in 6 months, also that their customer service staff cares if there is an issue. I also prefer to deal with companies with managers that take care of their employees.
