Did John and Cindy McCain use their telecom industry connections to have a cellphone tower built right by one of their many houses in order to improve signal strength? That’s what the Washington Post implies.
It seems the McCain’s Sedona, Ariz. ranch didn’t have the best cellphone reception in early 2007, so Cindy—what was that word John called her? Begins with a C…—asked Verizon Wireless to construct a tower nearby. After looking into the logistics of constructing a permanent tower, VZW balked, instead opting to install a temporary tower. These types of towers are used when a spike in cellphone activity is anticipated: a big sporting event or, here, a presidential campaign.
AT&T later helped out similarly.
There’s several things going on here. One, when was the last time VZW or AT&T went above and beyond for you, the average person out there? Do you live in an area with spotty cellphone coverage? Too bad.
Then there’s the whole issue of John McCain being a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, which overseas the FCC and, by extension, the likes of VZW and AT&T. Is that a conflict of interest?
Now I have to ask: does anyone, really, in their heart of hearts, actually care? Seems like the same old non-story that fills the cable news networks all day long.

They’re temporary mobile units so a presidential candidate and the secret service agents that protect him have cell service. I’m sure if Obama lived out in the middle of nowhere they’d cart out a few there as well. Big deal.
I’m certain his position didn’t hurt, but come on. Non-story.
Good PR move on the part of any carrier to make sure that influential people have decent coverage, even if it means setting up a tower somewhere where you otherwise wouldn’t.
I see you’re back to your old smear campaigns against conservatives.
Oh and that cell tower? That was ordered by the SECRET SERVICE so they would have proper coverage to you know, protect a presidential candidate.

Nope. Don’t care.
Yep the Secret Service were the ones who requested the temporary cell towers, not the Mccains. The author of the article didn’t bother figuring that out!
In similarly shocking news, Nike gave free shoes to a basketball player. Obama just wants to stir up controversy in case his millions in ad money and his slogans “vote for me and all your dreams will come true” and “free money for all” don’t work out.
Actually I went to the Hilton resort in Sedona once. I was there for about a week and half, there’s quite a few people there, and the reception is absolutely horrible. No matter where I went I barely had reception if at all. So I could understand requesting a tower being built there. I’m sure they went out of their way to build one for a senator.
Anyways, the real estate is redic in Sedona. The cheapest house we saw was around a million. I can’t imagine what a entire Ranch would cost.
As someone who lives in the area of Sen. McCain’s ranch. (And it is in Page Springs, not Sedona) The extra reception is sorely needed. Thank you Sen. McCain.
