Yes, we know you can get Qik for your jailbroken iPhones now, but this is the App Store version and Mr. Rose, personal hero of mine, gets a look at it before all of us. Jealous? Didn’t think so. Anyway, Rose pontificates that the version he has is near final and that it should be coming soon for free. Would you want your Qik followers to know exactly where you’re streaming from?
Also, you better order that Mophie Juice Pack now because this is going to suck the life out of your iPhone 3G faster than a paparrazo’s shutter when Lohan slips a nip.
Update: Bhaskar Roy, Co-founder of Qik, has commented on the matter:
Hi all - wanted to clarify that we are looking into having Qik be available on App Store, but at present are not sure when and how this will happen.

Qik around the corner.Yeah.
Very good news. I’ve been waiting for this announcement.
iPhones suck. Carrier specific, contract specific, money hungry apple freaks! For all the crap that everyone accuses Microsoft for, Apple does the same, just “legally”….
Hey, can you tell us if it will work on Edge still? The jailbroken version DOES work on Edge which is perfect because I have a first gen iPhone.
Let us know.
Thanks!
Jeff
That’s just awesome. I definitely need to get my hands on that app. Any word on the price range of the download?
Hi all - wanted to clarify that we are looking into having Qik be available on App Store, but at present are not sure when and how this will happen.
I thought there was something about the API and 3rd party apps that didn’t allow for ‘video’ capture.. Any word on ‘how’ Qik is accomplishing this?
Oh ok Bhaskar @ Quik. Thanks for clearing that up.
As the developer of the very first video recording application for the iPhone, i’m very confident that qik will never make it to the App Store with the current SDK Agreement and API’s (barring special treatment from Apple). Many of the API’s used to achieve video recording are simply not public, and don’t look to ever become public.
I guess you might be right and its simply sad. Video and live streams are killer apps for the iPhone and every other multimedia phone can do this . Its sad that Apple is so damn restrictive about this. time to jailbreak…
I’m a qik user and enjoy the software on the N95 but the iPhone just can’t handle as a quality video capture device. The quality of lens and build kill it. The Nokia lines for video capture and lens totally outdo the iPhone on this. I’m an iphone user as well and recognize it’s flaws.
Kevin Rose’s video was nice but not a quality vid. Take Scoble’s videos and compare them to that and you’ll see my point.
I like the QIK service, however my company forced an upgrade on everyone and now we have BlackBerrys, which QIK dont support. Come on QIK there are more BB users than i-phoners, dont let us down.
@Jonas: If you want to stream with your BlackBerry check out Next2Friends, they just released their app for the Curve, Pearl and Bold. It works as good as Qik, if not better.
QIK now supports BlackBerry Jonas!!! Check out their supported devices:
