A heads-up to my fellow football fans.
There’s a reason why Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 knocked FIFA 09 off its “fucking perch” in the UK this past week: it’s a better game, bar none. Granted, it’s still absurd that Konami hasn’t ponied up for all the Premier League licenses and all that, but what are you gonna do? Authentic logos don’t a good game make, to rip off Bill O’Reilly syntax.
In other news, what Champions League game are you watching today? Manchester United v. Celtc (which is what ESPN2 will have) couldn’t possibly be any more boring, while Real Madrid v. Juventus looks pretty solid. I may have to Bootcamp into Windows on my MacBook to see that.

(probable) American in knowing fuck all about ’soccer’ shocker:
Manchester United vs Celtic is almost guaranteed to be a brilliant game.
Sure, Celtic have a terrible away record, but United vs Celtic is always exciting as English & Scottish teams have a habit of trying to win.
Whereas Juventus, masterminded by the Tinkerman himself, will be so pragmatic away to Real Madrid that I would expect little in the way of action from them.
Celtic have lost 17 of their past 18 away games in the Champions League. Do you really think they have *any* chance of beating United today, (I *hate* United, by the way) especially with Rooney playing like he has?
English and Scottish clubs having a habit of playing to win? Do you remember Rangers’ run in the UEFA Cup last year? What did Messi describe it as, “anti-football”?
And for your information, today’s Real Madrid v. Juve game is in Turin, not Madrid. (But I don’t know anything, right?) And considering that Juve, outside of Amauri, has stunk up the joint as of late, Ranieri–what he has ever won, again?–will be lucky to at the helm of corrupt Juve by the end of the month.
So take your “I know more than you do” attitude and take a long walk off a short pier.
Lionel Messi’s comments were after a Champions League game, not a UEFA cup game. They have no relevance to the United Celtic game, however, as this is more like a local derby, rather than a European giant against a minnow (as Barca Rangers was)
I do stand corrected on the venue for tonight’s Juve game, so touché there. I stand by my comment that it will be a shit game in comparison to the United Celtic game however.
Irrespective of whether Celtic have a chance of winning, it will still be the superior match, with Celtic’s vocal support, the rivalry of Strachan & Ferguson will also add bite that the Juve game will be sadly lacking.
It’ll be exciting for United fans :)
FYI – You Gooners can watch the Arsenal/Fenerbahce game live on ESPN360 if you don’t mind the Spanish feed…
I like FIFA for the manager mode. The last time I played PES the manager mode sucked hard in comparison. I’ll have to pick it up to see if it changed for the better.
I’ll have to checkout where I can watch the United/Celtic game, the shit ESPN360 player doesn’t run on linux! Gonna see if I can rig it up in wine :)
well said Nicholas… HALA MADRID !!!!!
you claim to know something about football, yet say pes 2009>fifa 09…Mate go and play a game in pes, the arcadey 50 yard pinpoint passes, and unstobbable players…then go and play fifa 09, notice the slow, smooth build up play crisp passing, runs etc. all like real football. To support this watch a football game after playing both, Fifa 09 is by far the most realistic representation…it was PES up until 2008, but now it is fifa all the way. American idiot.
