I experienced a similar problem. When I bought my iPhone, I first checked with “Got Reception?” (Gotreception.com) It’s a great resource for finding out where reception problems are most likely to occur BEFORE you lock yourself with a specific carrier.

Yeah the button is a gimmick but a good idea. I have found 800-The-Info (or 800-843-4636 for my fellow blackberry users) as a reliable free 411 service to get various listings by name or category. I even get text messages with info and I'm directly connected to whoever I'm calling...it's GREAT!!

Yeah, that button on the phone definitely is gimmicky. And it's a shame considering that the Google 411 number only provides business listings.

If you want free directory assistance that gives you business, gov't, and residential listings, 1-800-FREE411 is the way to go.

And now the non-technical user feedback. Based on all the DECT 6.0 hype, I got this system to hopefully replace a Uniden 5.8 system. However, my wife (the non-technical, but final, decision maker) reports that the voice quality and range are both inferior to the existing Uniden system.

Also, as GI Joe notes, the blue charge/message light puts out enough lumens to read by.

The product developers spent way too much time on the gimicky goog411 button and not enough on basic phoneness.

I think this phone would do well in a corporate office. The intercom feature especially and I like the sleek overall design.

My family has been using this phone system (without the dedicated speakerphone) for about a month now. The biggest pain is how bright the blue charging light is - I haven't checked the guide to see if I can adjust this yet - hopefully I can. For now I just don't charge at night when I am trying to sleep.
