The original cartoon was entirely an American invention, and from then on it was a joint venture in toy design and fiction. So I think it only makes more sense in the "Asia is more fond of Robots in general" than anything else. Well, the TOYS existed in Asia prior to the United States (in, the 80s at least), but they weren’t called Transformers — you’re going back to Microman and Diaclone for that stuff.
