Tl;dr There is VERY little innovation in the gaming industry these days where all they are "selling" is better graphics and better graphics and better graphics, as if everyone has a 52" plasma to play the games on or pause the game frame by frame to drool over the graphics.

You want a game that is challenging and is different than 99% of the games on offer? Go and try arcade version of Spikeout.

I don't know, I don't feel there's a lack of innovation in games. There's a market for more or less everyone, and a variety of titles for each genre.

The one thing I do miss is the really simple side scroller. I loved the idea of the recent Mega Man from Capcom, but it was way too hard. I would happily pay for another simple Contra, or a simple 2D Mario game, or Zelda 1.5 (with more castles). Games look and play better today, but sometimes its nice to go back to that simpler time.
