Lenovo introduces Quick Start-powered S10e netbook for the eduction market

Some suit in a Lenovo boardroom had a great idea that if the company slaps the letter ‘e’ onto the S10 netbook name, the world would be a better place. The S10e is therefore geared to the education crowd, touting the same exact specs of the original S10 netbook of an Intel 1.6GHz Atom processor, 4GB SSD or 160GB HDD, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 10.1 LCD display, but now comes equipped with the Lenovo Quick Start instant-on OS powered by Splashtop. So rather than simply rolling out the update to the current offerings, the world now has another netbook and I doubt the world is better because of it.

  • So, Lenovo’s going to offer Splashtop (based on Linux), but not offer Linux as evan an optional OS. THAT is the height of douchebaggery.

  • Seems like that instant-on OS is pretty simple. It’s probably a good match for the educational market. Kind of locks down the user.

  • glad to see the new net book – I wonder how it will change the market

  • Matt, I suggest you give a huge mea culpa for speaking before knowing.

The S10e has not just one change – Quick Start – it also can be purchased with SUSE Linux Enterprise 10, can be purchased with a
6 Cell Lithium-Ion Battery instead of only a 3 Cell, and can handle 1.5 GB of RAM. Oh yes, also the screen is better – 10.1 WSVGA Glossy TFT – and the price has been reduced.

But hey, who says that writing a nasty piece isn’t more fun than being accurate!
