In what must be one of the signs of the apocalypse, MTV has posted hundreds – dare I say thousands – of music videos for your perusal. It’s all there – go ahead and dig through. I found Scarlett Johansson cavorting to the the sad-eyed crooning of Bob Dylan along with a video that essentially blew my mind in the 1988. Was the saint real? What was happening in the beginning? Do girls look like that?
Best of all, all of the videos are embeddable and shareable, ensuring plenty of memories will be flooding your browser in the next few hours. I’m honestly amazed by the service. It’s so rare to see a media company get something so right with so little fanfare that I almost want to writhe around on a church floor in faux ecclesiastical ecstasy.

Wow, I felt dirty reading that post, John. Do you need some time to be alone with your computer and Scarlett J? ;-)
What? MTV is actually doing something with music videos?
They never air videos on MTV anyway, so why not stream them online. Seriously, when is the last time you saw any videos on MTV? All they have on is the Hills or some other silly “reality” show.
Stop the crunchgear linking
why?
1) cuz CrunchGear doesn’t remember our TechCrunch ID for comments.
2) because it’s annoying – are we on one site or another? what’s going on? Did I leave the blog?
That’s my feedback. I’m not really all that annoyed, but everytime it happens, I say “damn they did it again”
And of course all content is blocked outside the US, so for those looking to embed music videos that are intended for international viewers as well, YouTube is still the best choice.
Isn’t the whole point of the internet to cross these barriers?
No is not blocked. At least yet. But I don’t think it will be blocked outside US as MTV has distribution rights outside US
“COPYRIGHTS RESTRICT US FROM PLAYING THIS VIDEO OUTSIDE THE U.S.”
That’s what I get up in Canada.
Weird. Works damn fine in Romania where nothing else works….
x2
Stop featuring content only available in one country… this is about the internet right? Call this site AOL-Crunch now, damn rednecks.
another website that ONLY WORKS inside the U.S. how innovative. how edgy.
how f@cking stupid.
> Do girls look like that?
Not in Silicon Valley.
Thanks for that – Guns N Roses is just what my afternoon needed; still one of the best concerts I ever saw
Wait, the “M” stands for “Music?” Huh. All this time I thought it was “Moron.”
I don’t know if it’s bold, but it’s really smart. About time you can actually start watching music videos and learning about new songs and artists from MTV. I don’t think I’ve seen a video on MTV since 1996.

All content blocked to the UK as well it appears.
So, alongside Pandora, Hulu etc, another site I’ll dismiss and forget about. Back to last.fm and Youtube it is!
“Copyrights restrict us from playing this video outside the U.S.” FAIL! Although I care way less about music videos than I do about the TV shows I wish I could more easily watch on Hulu (proxy anonymizers suck for bandwidth intensive apps).
how is this different than youtube? i bet youtube has all of these videos.
they’ve been doing this for years. nothing new here.
MTV has been streaming videos for over a year, this is old news. What they did recently is change the player and add better user functionality for leaving comments. John Biggs is really late with adding this story, a year+ late.
The website will be interesting to watch to see user “views” for each video, because YouTube will probably be the premiere destination for watching music videos. Thus creating an embarrassment for MTV jumping back into music and will probably never get back what they lost in the industry.
Poor management at most of the music labels are still trying to figure out how to get customers back. MTV still doesn’t have a clue, which is fun to watch.
fail! why no just blog about Kentucky fried chicken or white castle
MTV is actually concerned with music again. When the hell did this happen? In all seriousness though this is a good move for them. Everything is becoming more digital nowadays and it is about time MTV utilized this to its full potential.
I’ve tried a bunch of videos and they don’t play here in the UK – they’re restricted to viewers in the US only it seems.
