Why do people who love Apple hate Microsoft? Conversely, why do people who love Microsoft hate Apple? Science, that wonderful abstraction, may have an answer.
A professor at the University College London, Semir Zeki, has proposed the following: love is a blind emotion while hate takes conscious effort to produce.
Think of it in romantic terms: Why do you find that girl or guy attractive? You just sorta do; it’s hard to explain. But, why do you hate that girl or guy? I’m sure you have a laundry list of reasons.
We can apply the same logic to Apple/Microsoft. It’s a lot easier to explain why you hate Apple or Microsoft, but try explaining why you like Apple or Microsoft. “I don’t know, I just do.” Indeed.
I don’t know, it gets pretty cerebral pretty quickly. Y’all would be better served (and certainly better entertained) playing Fable II.

“Y’all would be better served (and certainly better entertained) playing Fable II.”
Ah, but wouldn’t that require me to not hate Microsoft so much that I’m willing to own a 360?
I don’t hate both but not really like both.
so if you like something you just cant explain it?! but no problem with hating!?
it would sure explain a lot of things concerning men and women, but i remain cautious concerning computers…
I have both a MAC and PC (Vista), and I love them both, what I hate are iTards and Vistards.
I have to disagree with the concept that Mac & PC users love their chosen platforms blindly. People are as pragmatic about why they use one type of computer, as they are about why they won’t use another type of computer.
There may be some instances where people “blindly” choose a lover, a computer, a car, etc. But these people usually end up regretting their decisions because they didn’t step back and think about them logically.
In my case, I consciously chose my computer (note this is my personal choice) for some of the following reasons:
1) so that I don’t have the frustration and expense of dealing with malware.
2) so that I have a computer that gets out of my way and increases my productivity.
3) so that I have a choice to run ANY of the software that is available (Mac, Windows, Linux) that I want to run concurrently.
4) so that I have a well-built and aesthetically designed computer that will last for years and retain a high resale value.
5) so that I have a computer that just works with any hardware or software I choose to use.
I think this is overrationalizing something that’s easily explainable…
You use product A, you grow accustomed to it, you grow fond of it… If you are a tad rational you will recognize that the product A is not perfect (even though it might be what you need or look for) and are able to also recognize that it has flaws. Products B to Z might be there but you have your reasons for not using them (that might range from price to plain “not knowing how to work with it”).
If you are not at least a tad rational, every time somebody points out a flaw on product A you will speak ill against the product said somebody uses or supports (and even speak ill against that somebody) or voice how you don’t understand how everybody has too much troubles with product A, because you have used it without as much as a hitch for any length of time.
Products A to Z have all their strong points and their flaws, they are not equal but might serve as a substitute (once you ride the learning curve).
So Pepsi is no better than Coke or any other Cola, Burger King is no better than McDonalds or Wendy’s, just as much as Mac is not better than Linux or Windows… It’s just a matter of choice, that comes from your experience.
Oh I love how Macs look, but can’t afford one, I like Windows ease (and the fact that Adobe products are available there) but didn’t find Vista to be what I expected, so, IMHO, Linux is what’s it for me. My points of view could change once I can afford a Mac, or 7 blows my mind or stay the same just because I grew accustomed to Linux.
Now… to say that there’s a reason behind hate, is not only stupid but dangerous (and more so when you think of other forms of hate that cannot be born out of any reasoning at all).
Nice photoshop job. Shout outs to Radio Raheem!!
