The kids at GearLog installed a beta copy of Windows 7 on their fresh new MacBook Pro and found that it wasn’t working quite as expected. Most of the functions were working but some of the little tweaks failed.
In fact, multi-touch didn’t work at all and the system couldn’t get online due to some driver problems. They did use Boot Camp so it’s possible that there were a few missing drivers in the install rather than Windows’ fault. Oh well. It’s a beta.
How not surprising.
When you say that multi-touch is not working, you’re referring to the trackpad, correct? I don’t see how it would work. I figure something like that would need some special drivers or something, right?
Multitouch is a feature of the Mac OS—there is no way it will ever work under Windows until such time as all Windows machines have such a feature. If you mean the trackpad didn’t work at all, yes, it will be a driver issue. No surprise there given the pre-beta status.
on the setup of windows on Boot camp it says that all of the features to do with the trackpad still work while running windows.

Then go under the control panel and turn on single and double click, scroll, etc. Of course, three and four finger gestures wont work as they invoke features only found in Mac OS X. I dont think Apple is too keen to turn on everything found in Mac OS X for Windows. What would be the point of that? No one buys a certain laptop for gestures …

If you can get through the install, go to the device manager and find the ‘Multimedia Device’ listed as uninstalled. Click on it to install the driver. As long as you have net access, Windows 7 should go out and find the correct driver. That’s how I got sound working on my MBP.
I got audio to work woohoo!!! I installed bootcamp 2.1 drivers and i noticed that it removed Realtek audio drivers and installed Sigma audio drivers. Two seconds later i started hearing beautiful beeping and installing sounds. My ears melted and my life began to glow with new opportunities. My life is now complete!!!
You have to put the mac osx install dvd in you drive, once your have installed Windows 7. The setup.exe dosn’t work, so you have to go into the folder named drivers or bootcamp/drivers. There you will find the drivers for everything.

ATTENTION: Solution for problems with installing BootCamp drivers on Windows 7 included on Leopard installation disk (only for MacBook Pro – late 2008 model)
Problem:
At the beginning of the installation the MSI error 2229 occures!
Solution:
1.) Use the program InstEd (www.instedit.com) to open the BootCamp.msi (…/Drivers/Apple/…) package on the Leopard installation disk and drop the table “Verification”. Additionally search for the terms “=600″ and change them to “>=600″. Copy the whole directory tree from the Leopard installation disk (BootCamp drivers) to the harddisk and replace the original BootCamp.msi with the file just edited in InstEd. Open the preferences menu of the file and activate the vista compatibility mode.
2.) Open the preference menu for the file “AppleMultiTouchTrackPadInstaller” (…/Drivers/Apple/…) and activate the vista compatibility mode.
3.) Start the BootCamp driver installation with the file “setup.exe”.
Note: A sound driver error will occure during installation. Just ignore it. Everything will work fine after installation.
4.) Run the Apple Software Update and update the touchpad driver.
5.) Activate the right click option with 2 fingers in the bootcamp control panel.
Note: It will only work with 3 fingers when you activate the 2 finger right click option. Without the 2 finger right click option enabled the right click is not working at all.
6.) Activate Aero effects by running the speed test in the vista control panel.
Known issues:
Sound effects are not entirely pure and clear! Maybe there is a better driver available directly from the manufacturer of the soundcard.

Hi, I installed Windows 7 (RC Build 7100) but could not run Bootcamp 2.0 and his upgrade 2.1. Got same error 2229 with edited MSI file. What is the problem? Maybe Microsoft is preventing MAcs to running fully with Windows 7?

It should definitely work with the step-by-step guide above. Maybe you can try to set the setup file to vista compatibility mode. For me my guide works fine and I had no problems installing windows 7.
