Hot on the heels of our first keyboard abomination we present this odd $92 keyboard for the iPhone. The BTKeyMini is available from Avalive and is on pre-order right now but it does work directly with the iPhone, which saves you from having to tear up an old third-party keyboard. Again, I’m totally OK with not having to carry a keyboard around but maybe you’re writing your novel on your iPhone and need it.

  • The reason it’s preorder is that it doesn’t work — Apple haven’t opened the iPhone up for BT keyboards, and if you contact the manufacturer they will tell you they are simply waiting for that functionality to appear.

I DO see the appeal here, I used a Bluetooth keyboard extensively with my S60 devices before moving to the iPhone — a BT keyboard, smartphone, and office suite can handle 90% of what I would need a laptop for on the road.. add in the great big screen on the iphone and you’ve got a winner, if Apple ever opens it up enough for BT accessories.

  • I remember that about 8 years ago, there were many similar keyboards for Palm V, it was a strong trend, but I don’t think there was any success to them. They are too bulky to carry around. In the case of the iPhone, they also do not match the “cool” factor of the iPhone – looks “geeky”…

  • It was NaNoWriMo that prompted me to google for just this thing. Sounds like it doesn’t work yet, though.

    WHY NOT, APPLE? HUH? HUH?

They’re making me miss my freakin’ handspring. THAT thing had external keyboard magic.
