Get thee to Best Buy as soon as possible if you want to pre-order a BlackBerry Storm, which, as we all know, is the first BlackBerry with a touchscreen. A crisp $50 bill and a smile is all that’s required to pre-order this, Verizon Wireless’ “we’re cool, too!” device.

There’s the small issue of not knowing exactly what the final price will be when it’s released later this month—speculation puts it at between $199 and $299. I, for one, hopes Verizon charges something outrages, like $800, just as a goof.

Presumably all you have to do is inquire about the device once in the store.

  • So how will it cost then? anyone go to the store and check?

  • I’ve contacted my closest 12 Best Buys and no one there seems to know anything about this yet… :-( Has anyone had any luck on actually finding a Best Buy that is accepting pre-ordering at this point?

  • I contacted my local best buy in VA over the phone and I was told they started taking pre-orders few hours ago. you can go into any best buy in person. I was told that the Blackberry storm will arive at best buy stores on 11/16/08. good luck.

  • I just called 1-888-best-buy and the nice man told me that they are indeed accepting orders, but you must go to the store in person (couldnt do it over the phone =( and give them a $50 refundable deposit (not sure what exact terms and conditions for “refundable” are, but who the hell cares! You’ll be one of the firsts with this awsome phone!)

The guy said that if you have verizon and your times up for your “new every two” same contract renewal terms and discounts apply. I explained that I never purchaed a phone from anywhere other than a verizon wireless store…. does anybody know how this works?

  • i work for verizon, your ne2 is only redeemable withing the corporate verizon wireless

  • annonymous your comment doesn’t quite make sense, why wouldn’t NE2 be applicable within Bestbuy, aren’t they an authorized Verizon shop/reseller?

  • So, I went to bestbuy, the NE2 doesn’t work the same as in Verizon stores, but the bb clerk explained that you still get the same price, he made it seem that verizon stores have “gimmick” ne2 and make you do rebates, instead bb just gives you the same lower price instantly, no rebates. I put my $52.77 or so w/ tax down tonight, nice thing is they will call you BEFORE the phones make it to the store and setup an appointment/time to come in and swap, no waiting in line etc. Plus I had bb rewards to spend so that worked out well…

  • So when is the Storm going to be available for sale? I’m getting tired of waiting and am about ready to purchase an iPhone. Some guy on Leo Laporte said last weekend that a Verizon rep told him it wouldn’t be out until the beginning of the year.

  • What I’m afraid of is that, as with many new models, there will be flaws in the beginning. I’m wondering if I shouldn’t wait and let them release the phone, fix whatever bugs pop up and then get it later…thoughts?

  • I’ve been watching and waiting so long, I was worried that this think would be all hype. I’m pleased to annouce that the phone is the sheezy!! I went into a VZW corporate store in ROyal oak, MI over the weekend. After a little subtle elbowing and winking, one of the emplyess let me play with the store demo.

For anyone who has a blackberry, the learning curve will be short. For anyone else, they’ll think that “this is how touchscreen phones are supposed to work”. The first thing I did was type a text and it wase so easy, I’m shocked noone has come out with a clickable screen before this. I had a good ten minutes of hand’s on with the storm before I realized there were 10 other people lined up behind me waiting to try it out.

I’m planning on purchasing mine at that same store because they really know their stuff. I would caution anyone about buying at Best Buy as I’ve founbf the typical salesperson doesn’t know squat about the equipment they’re selling.

    4 days to go!!!
