For most of us expecting future gadget deliveries in the US, it looks like DHL is no more. Well, no more as of January 30th. Whether you – ahem — don’t care for DHL or you sued DHL for dumping 21,600 Xbox 360 consoles on a railroad track, the human aspect of the story is that almost 10,000 people will be out of work. And that’s after an initial 5,400-person reduction since January of this year.

The company will no longer be engaged in domestic shipping but will still provide international shipping services to and from the US. It’s been speculated that UPS may pick up the bulk of DHL’s domestic shipments to the tune of $1 billion per year in additional revenue – good news for UPS, who had a rough third quarter.

  • Ive been waiting for another source to pick this story up. My company ships with DHL and a UPS rep came in the other day and told me this so he could get our business. But he told me it was at the end of November that this would be happening. And the other sources he showed me were kinda sketchy

  • Can’t say I’ll miss them.

  • DHL customers should not worry. FedEx will Pick-Up where DHL left off! Visit http://www.choose.fedex.com to learn how FedEx can give you superior service. FedEx is ranked #1 in customer satisfaction for the past 11 years. Trust me, I know from experience.

    • Every time I’m forced to go into a FedEx/Kinko’s store I wonder if it wouldn’t be easier to just deliver the package myself. I’ve never visited a location that manages to stay open with such horrid, unbelievably bad service and disinterested employees who assume the single piece of Scotch tape you used to seal your envelope are enough to safely deliver your package. The last time I had to have an argument with the person about using a FedEx envelope, because he thought my small envelope from work was enough to get a delicate package to its destination on time.

      I hate FedEx stores.
