This is the new XM channel lineup, which includes the “best of” Sirius. (The Sirius lineup, featuring the “best of” XM, should be revealed today, too.) A quick look shows that the good electronic stations are gone (of course), but The Virus (Opie and Anthony and Ron and Fez) is still around on 202.
It also looks like The Rhyme, the old school hip-hop channel, is gone, which is unacceptable. There’s no way in hell you’ll find me listening to “Lil Wayne” or “Soulja Boy.” Give me Eric B and Rakim or give me death.

Sirius got rid of ‘Backspin’ (classic hip hop) and ‘Boombox’ which really annoys me. I thought this merger was supposed to increase choice of channels, not restrict it?

I agree: The Rhyme was it. And they snatched it away just when I was getting a feel for it. Furthermore, Soul Street, which took me back to when I was a child (born in the mid sixties)has been taken away and replaced with straight junk. Yo, I can go back to WDAS for free. They don’t any of that rare shit, that you never hear on free radio. Long live the Rhyme and Soul Street. P.S. I will not re up.

I was extremely disappointed that Backspin got booted on Sirius. That was my go to station when I got tired of listening to crap on Shage45 and HipHop Nation. They should have kept at least one of them. Is there a number we can call to complain?
None of my presets on Sirius were seriously effected today, but they’re all rock/alternative/indie/news. Sorry to hear you guys were negatively impacted by this.
Does anyone know if Sirius/XM are able to monitor which of their stations are being listened to the most and least?

Anyone up for a petition! Let me just say I couldn’t even see straight after starting my 4 hour drive tonight without XM65-The Rhyme. I was so upset after talking to customer service and finding out it had been ‘retired’ I almost ran off a bridge. Seriously, XM is going to lose my subscription if they do not bring some form of a classic hip hop station back. If I wanted to hear TI or Little Wayne, I’d listen to my pathetic local stations. ofcourse, not that the new ’shade’ or ‘hip hop nation’ was actually playing music tonight, instead i had to listen tosome foul-mouthed lady and her ‘interview’ with Q-tip. What an atrocity.

Sirius XM, you are in the fight of your company and you are already pissing people off. How can you dump old hip hop but keep this stuff on? If someone wants to listen to channels full of one artist, they can get an ipod. Here I will help you.

Totally agree! Backspin and Boombox were great stations with great names to boot…This merger thing sucks right now…I emailed Sirius to complain and this is the response:

I’d much rather have channels dedicated to their type of music than a station that showcases an hour a day or week. Email Sirius XM people! Let’s get these channels back! If anyone knows of a petition to sign, let me know!!! I’ll be searching myself..
For sure, they have lost my subscription. The only way I will continue on, is if they bring back SOUL STREET and THE RYHME. That format that they replaced these two with are booty. Soul Town is just like regular radio. I liked when heard stuff that regular radio had forgotten. Protest by not renewing your service agreement.

I am rather curious as to how they chose their lineup. It is most definitely obvious that they didn’t ask anyone that listened to the XM or Sirrus (ala old school hiphop). What’s amazing is that they got rid of channels that had a huge following. 66RAW was an awsome station that gave me something different and now I got Shade 45 with the same ol same ol crap that’s on the radio. Bring back the Rhyme and 66RAW with Leo G and Mz Kitti. need that Blaze mix session in my life right now. How about adding stations and not taking away. The Rhyme and 66RAW was the reason I chose XM over Sirrus in the first place. If you decide to keep Shade 45 let it compliment 66RAW not replace it! XM get you act together!
You’re assuming everyone who has Sirius/XM listens to hiphop. That is most definitely not the case. And you and your friends don’t necessarily constitute a huge following – hiphop/rap have been declining in industry sales for some time now, while Country is inexplicably growing.

They should just ban *ALL* rap and hip-hop from the airwaves. All that kind of “music” does is provide drug thugs, rapists and gangsters a method to launder all their drug money. The sooner rap and hip-hop is banned by the FCC, the sooner we’ll have the airwaves returned to decent music, like good old rock’b'roll!

I wa SO P*SSED when I couldn’t find the Rhyme. I sent them a hot email, and didn’t hear back after about 4 days, so I decided to cancel. This is how it is -Old school and progressive hiphop gets pushed out of EVERYTHING because it isn’t the money-making nonsense of b*tches and hoes suckin it, n*ggas being ready to die for it, etc.
I can hear Lil Wayne for FREE! and I don’t want to, WHY should we pay for this??
XM will only get the message by people cancelling on XM, citing the fact that XM has cancelled ON US by removing all the classic hiphop, not to mention punk – as if it can be replaced by music that’ not even in the punk genre! They don’t get it, much of the customer base signed on b/c they wanted to hear something that isn’t played on the radio.

I am upset that the “Chrome” disco channel was cancelled and not repleaced with any other channel that offers disco. They eliminated an entire era of wonderful upbeat dance music. It was the only channel I could rely upon to keep me awake on long driving trips. I’m sorry Frank Sanatra just does not do it. What “smart exec” made that decision anyway? Was the disco era before or after his or her time? Try it. You’ll like it. Especially if you are driving a long distance and need something upbeat to keep you awake. I have already cancelled xmradio in one of my automobiles. The others will probably soon follow.
Okay, there are many of us out here that were privileged to witness the birth of hip hop and grew up with hip hop when rappers honestly rapped and there were these things called “battles”. I am 38 years old, married with two children and I listened to “The Rhyme” everyday. It represented the real form of rap. Getting rid of that station was simply criminal. You now have stations that play only AC/DC and Elvis! Come on! Seriously, whom is feeding you the stats for programming.
I am not picking on the hip hop of today but I feel absolutely no connection with it. I am not trying to sound old school (which I am) but they seem to just be saying nothing to get paid with very tired beats and absolutely no story to tell in the rhymes. Please bring back “The Rhyme” or the Sirrus version of a classic hip hop station.
