The hottest news on the interwebs right now is the official release date and price of the BlackBerry Storm – Nov 21 @ $199, btw. It is getting nearly as much press as the iPhone and even though it’s a hot handheld, are you planning on buying the latest CrackBerry now or in the near future?

  • Right now I actually have no use for a smart phone, but if I did I would probably get the iPhone just because I’m so used to my iPod Touch.

  • I would if it was being offered by at&t.

  • Nope ‘cos I already have an iPhone and a Bold…

  • Nah, not gonna get this. I see no need to change providers just for a phone. Sprint has the HTC Touch Pro, which is good enough for me.

Now if the cell industry in the US wasn’t so backwards, I would be able to buy any phone I wanted and take it to any provider I wanted… some day…

  • Nope.

    Love Blackberries. Don’t love touchscreens.

    I’ll stick with my Pearl.

  • Yes, because it’s my first smartphone and I want to start out with the best. Plus the handset market is going to be increasingly touchscreen as time moves on, so I’d better learn to use one now.

But the best part is that it’s Verizon. I’m with AT&T now but I travel extensively in the US for business and there are just too many places where my phone is useless (no phone, no EDGE, no 3G), but my Verizon broadband card worked like a charm. In fact, I have never yet been in a location — no matter how rural, how far north or south, east or west — that my Verizon card did NOT work.

I’m actually excited about the purchase, especially about the drop date. Because it’s going to take me the entire holiday week to learn how to use the damn thing.

  • Absolutely, I’m with Verizon, so it’s slim pickin’s. I’ve always wanted an iPhone but I’m pretty loyal to VZW. I’ve considered switching over to AT&T just to get the iPhone actually. But then I remember I don’t like being anally penetrated with horrible customer service, expensive voice plans, and ridiculously priced data plans. I believe that the Storm certainly won’t beat the Jesus phone, but it’ll come damn close. Plus, it’s a Blackberry, you can’t go wrong.

  • I agree Marc, Blackberry’s long record as the granddaddy of the smartphone market is also a factor in my decision. I have friends with iPhones, but they have no business use for a smartphone, as I do, it’s all personal. So their experiences with the iPhone is not a useful comparator.

  • I think I’ll go for the Bold. BlackBerry are just great in massive messaging missions and that’s where you need the keyboard and all the cool shortcuts and productivity tips they have. If you’re looking for a consumer device for music, video, etc, I think that Apple is the company for that.
