So Penny Arcade just released the second episode of its well-liked Penny Arcade Adventures series. Well, we happen to have a very nice collector’s edition of the first episode sitting around and we thought it might be nice to give away a matching pair to a loyal reader. So what do you have to do to win?

All you need to do to qualify is put a comment below that has your top 3 games that you totally nerd out on. For example, my list would be:

1. X-COM: UFO Defense
2. Master of Orion 2
3. Mega Man 2

See, isn’t that easy? Feel free to add links if your game is so nerdy none of us nerds know about it. This is a judgment-free zone (like PAX) and you will not be mocked, even if you really like Ragnarok Online or Harry Potter card games; trash talkers will be disqualified.

So, drop a comment and after this weekend (let’s say on Monday) we’ll pick the lucky recipient of this luxurious Precipice limited edition and a regular-style copy of the 2nd episode.

Update: Winner post here, in case you guys bookmarked this page.

  • Is this another shallow contest where in the end noone wins anything. Kind of like the contest JB did a few weeks back where he completely moved on from it and never even announced a winner? SHALLOW!

    • Just because we didn’t announce a winner doesn’t mean that no one won. If it was a busy day, any announcement that might have been planned might been pushed back behind news we had to cover until it completely slipped the mind – but we still shipped the winner their prize.

If there’s a specific contest you’re wondering about, post the link and I’ll go track down when the prize shipped.

  • Ok, you want nerdy, here are the Games that I play and nerd out on.

City of Heroes/City of Villians. Modern era MMORPG, nerdy but not unusual.

Now THIS is where nerdy really begins.

Alex Kidd In Miracle World which I still play on the original Sega Master System (some of you weren’t born when this predecessor to the Sega Genesis came out)

The original Dungeons and Dragons release on an original Commodore 64 that is still hooked up to an old school TV with knobs. This is uber old school nerd gaming at it’s finest.

    1) Pick Up The Phone Booth and Die

Some close runners up: Ancient art of war at sea, Lords of Conquest, and the Oregon trail

  • 1. Anything Metal Gear
    2. Anything Resident Evil (well almost anything just the normal games not that online garbage or
    not quite light gun crap)
    3. Anything Metroid (mmm Samus… tasty)

  • 1. Wizardry I. I wasted the best hours of my childhood on seemingly never-ending dungeons, hours that could have been spent biking, exercising or generally acquiring social skills that could be useful 25 years later. When I first read a FAQ of the game by the turn of the century, I realized how tiny it was.

    2. Dungeon Master: Chaos Strikes Back. while I liked the original dungeon master better, the CSB extension allowed you to draw your characters (32×32 pixels portraits, using the 16 colour palette of the game). And sure thing, I made characters for all the high school people in my class (that’s “people” and not “friends”, because who needs a friend when you can have dungeon master?). Now if that’s not nerdy I don’t know what is.

    3. Crusader: no remorse. I didn’t clock in nearly as many hours in that than in any of the two above, but I once was so engrossed with my game that I forgot time and missed the date I had with a Scandinavian model. but again, who needs dating models when you can play sub-par action games on a crummy laptop?

I’m sorry to report that I have many equally embarrassing game-related stories, but I’m restricting myself to 3 in the name of fairness.

  • 1. Runescape
    2. Astrowars
    3. Commander Keen

  • 1. Phantasy Star Online
    2. Winback
    3. Metal Gear Solid

  • 1) Wofenstein 3D
    1) Defender (Arcade)
    3) Team Fortress 2

  • 1. Total Eclipse
    2. Guardian War
    3. Zhadnost: The People’s Party

    3DO for the win.

  • 1) Mario Brothers. Because when I first saw it I was 12 and said to my dad “Wow look at the graphics”. It’s what made me want to be a programmer.

    2) Zork on the C64. Because I didn’t know it was Zork as I got it from a friend who knew a friend… Becomming my first “Shared” game, my first RPG, and the first game where I felt absolutely impossibly stuck in that spot with in the cave where you had to make a bridge by waving the want and I had the stick (wand) but didn’t know to wave it and make the bridge. My dad suggested it making it my first game where he and I co-op’ed on.

    3) Finaly Fantasy VII. I was working at a video game store when the game came out…if this part doesn’t land me the win I don’t know what will… and so I wore the Promo t-shirt with Cloud on the back for 2 years after that until it started to tear and become indecent. Becoming the first game I was a fan-boy about. People would ask me about the shirt and I would turn around and say “Ha, I have a warrior on my back!”

phew, this list came to me frighteningly easy.

Honorable Mention goes to Doctor Mario for my Dad who used to start his game play on Level 20 (highest) and play 2 or three times for 2 – 3 hours until the game became too fast to play anymore and then he’d go to bed and repeat it the next day.

  • 1. Night Trap – Sega CD, Just look up “Night Trap” on youtube if you’re not familiar.

  • 1. C&C Generals
    2. Mario Kart Wii
    3. Guitar Hero 3 I admit I sing along. HOpefully my wife gets me World Tour then I won’t look quite so dorky….nevermind.

  • I don’t know if I should pre-empt any announcement, but I won! Thanks, CrunchGear! Anybody know if I got picked randomly, or for truly being nerdiest?

  • Oh, wait, just saw the trackback. Thanks.
