Google’s voice search app coming on Monday, all Apple’s fault

When Google ran their big push about their new voice search application for iPhone, the plan was that it would go live Friday and all would be well. TC has word that the app his hitting tomorrow and that Apple inexplicably refused to push the app on Friday. It was, it seems, “in review.”

This is, as they say in the business, absolutel bullshit. While I agree that the iPhone ecosystem must be protected from varmints lest it end up like Windows Mobile – a slatternly tart that HTC and Sony-Ericsson are now forced to gussy up just to take out into the public – I can’t believe that Google couldn’t make a few calls to get this launched when they said it would launch. Is this a power play? A mix-up? A case of bad shellfish eaten by Steve which pulled him away from his desk from 4pm to 4:40 and so did not allow the lackey who carries the key to the golden “Launch to iPhone” button to reach the Pixar King in time? Perhaps we’ll never know.

  • It’s just 2 days, who cares! I’ve worked on 4 iPhone apps now that were all published a few days later than the projected date. One came nearly 2 weeks after the projected date. In all instances it was still “under review.” In my eyes, I’m glad Apple isn’t playing favors or favorites and treating google just as they would treat any other app developer.

  • Maybe they are angry with Google about Android and G1 :P I have to say I would like to see this search app to come out on Android too.

  • Once again, weak John, weak.
How you get from, TC HAS WORD: “Google was under the impression that the application would be live on the App Store on Friday” to “all Apple’s fault” in your headline is irresponsible.

TC even admits that Google has said that app is still listed as “in review”, so where did they get the impression it would be Friday ?

All developers treated poorly ? Really ? Did you ask me ? We have 3 apps up, they were reviewed in 12, 8 & 2 days. If you had ever attended any of the developers conferences, you might have learned of the number of departments that need to sign off on an app, with quite possibly the largest amount of time spent in legal.

Release dates depend on the number of apps in the que, complexity and software efficiency, I for one am impressed to see that Apple is scrutinizing all apps and developers with the same policies.

  • Every thing I saw originally said the app would be released “as soon as Friday”. To me that meant that it might appear Friday or it could be another day.

    Maybe I’m just logical…
